Again, this is not a contract offer, so it's not an insult, just standard operating procedure. The Leafs had to either qualify him (Which, as mentioned, is a 2-way offer) or not qualify him and let him walk as an UFA. I'd be beyond shocked if he doesn't sign with the Leafs this summer, on a 1-way deal, in the 700k-1 million range.

Who is this guy? Hahaha. He's lucky to have a job that does not include swinging a hammer or towel flossing on stage.

I think he's well within his rights to reject whatever he wants.

That said, I think he sucks. Not in a catastrophic Luke Schenn giveaway-leading-to-a-goal kind of way, because the opposition doesn't score that much when he's out there, but his lack of speed and skills makes him very vulnerable to cycling, and is one of the reasons why we can get hemmed in and give up as many shots as we did last year.

anybody who watched any leaf games knows the value of fraser. I loved him on the leafs. Way better then kostka, sticks up for his teammates and had a great plus/- . I think every leafs fan and by this I mean true leaf fan would say he deserves a one way contract.

I'd take him as a #7 d.

Stop trashing the guy when you obviously don't know what this is all about, he earned a 1 way (look at caleys post explaining it)

It's not about playing in the NHL. It's about money. On a two way deal you might get paid 600k while playing in the NHL vs 90k playing in the AHL whereas on a one way deal you'll get 600k whether you're in the NHL or the AHL. The guy is 27 and has been making peanuts in the AHL his entire career so he should be declining this after being one of the better #6 d-men in the NHL last season (although he sucked in the playoffs).

As a hab fan, please. I hope the leafs do this. We'll take Fraser off your hands.

Replaceable part but I love the physical game he brings. Did his job well as a defensive dman in the regular season, but I thought he struggled big time in the playoffs

He would easily be a 5th or 6th dman on the Habs, in fact I would say majority of teams would love to have a guy like Fraser as a bottom pairing guy.

Yes, for sure

He's not a big name out there but he is very useful and cheap. Mark had a fantastic first half but after that he just wasn't the same (maybe playing injured) hope he gets the right deal and brings back the game he had during the first half.

I agree that he deserves a one-way. He played tough all year.

You clearly didn't watch him play last season. He deserves a 1-way

As a leafs fan, why is this being posted here and not the leafs page?

Fraser isn't some franchise superstar that other teams fans really care about lol. Heck, I don't even care about this. Fraser is useless, he can go away for all I care -.-

You're kidding right? He was one of the the most consistent dmen for the Leafs last season. Had a great season , amongst the top in the +/- department and isn't scared to stick up for teammates. Nonis will get him signed to a one-way contract for around a mil. He deserves it. Turning down the qualifying offer is part of the negociation process..

Quite a few people don't respect a players right to negotiate, they view it as turning down free money.

Yep, There can't be anything between a #1 defenseman and a #6 defenseman. The trashing on the guy in here is amazing. Like any of you after the year he had would risk making just minor league money and possibly never making it back to the NHL. Several teams would AT LEAST sign him to a one way minimum deal in the NHL.

btw, it's a 2-way not because he was on a 2-way deal last year, but rather because he didn't meet the games threshold that requires teams to make the QO a 1-way offer.

With the shortened season that threshold is:
a) 35 NHL games played last season, and
b) 155 NHL games played over the last 3 seasons, and
c) didn't clear waivers the previous season.

While he played 35+ games last season he's only played 75 NHL games the last 3 seasons (plus another 4 in the playoffs). So he doesn't meet criteria (B).

*Without the shortened season the normal criteria is 60/180 games.

Are we going to have a thread for every player that doesn't sign his QO?

Where's the "Rask rejects Bruins QO" and "Ganger rejects Oilers QO" threads?

This is a complete non-story and the only people who think it means anything don't have a clue what a QO actually is
