I could see him being offered more elsewhere

Yeah, let's throw big money at Horton. Dumbest idea I've heard yet. Pay him more money than either Legwand or Erat were/are making for the same production. That makes a ton of sense to me. Talk about massive overpayment for a second line talent.

He's a better offensive player then Legwand or Erat ever were.
Plus he's a pwf. So I don't agree with you one bit

Better offensive player? Barely and if he's barely a better player and we give him that sort of money for a guy who has a longer injury history than most we're stupid. His highest point total ever was 62. Wow. He's a dynamic talent. Let's spend money on another albatross of a contract. No thank you.

Although I'd like to see us get Horton, I wouldn't wanna pay what he's going to be offered elsewhere. I do think he's better than Legwand/Erat but I'm not on board with paying 5+.

I'd rather see us make moves for Phaneuf (if hes available; heard he was on nhl network radio on XM) and then try to get some guys in FA and draft someone that can play this upcoming year. My two cents.

His injuries haven't been nearly as bad as Legwand and Erats in their career.

And I just completely disagree with you. I think he could reach 65-70 points here.
He deserves a contract around 5 mil.

Think what you want, I don't think you truly understand the kind of player he is.

No way he hits those numbers here. He'd be surrounded with less offensive talent, and it is doubtful he could stay healthy for 70+ games. 50-55 points is what he can produce at this point. $4.5M is right, though $5M would be acceptable assuming he can stay healthy. The $5.5M+ per being rumored is awful.

We shouldn't be putting too much money out there this year, with trying to sign Horton. I'd love to see him but too much. I think we should go after depth, and go after Clarke MacArthur. He got 60 something points two years ago, and consistently gets over 45 points. We are weak on the left wing side so i think he would be great.

He also has a mush melon and could be one concussion away from Lindros ville. I like Horton but 5-5.5 is too damn much.

I was interested in Horton until I saw what he's demanding. No thanks.

1. Concussions are bad anyway you look at it.

2. If he can't reach 65-70 points with Bergeron and Lucic as his linemates, he won't do it with the guys we have here currently.

3. I wouldn't have a problem giving him a contract for $5 million. Problem is he's going to get way more than that on the open market. That would be the most I'd pay him and there are teams out there that will pay him over $6 million and he's just not worth that sort of investment.

To add, it's not just the cash, but the term. He's rumored to want a minimum of 6 years. Way too much of a commitment for mush mellon.

Can his contract be insured, or do we end up with another Lombardi.

Personally, I don't consider Horton a big name. Which is why 6 years $40 mil is nuts.

It is not jus Horton, it's anybody! Anybody on UFA will demand more then we can offer according to this board. So I don't really see us signing anyone unless we pay through the roof or dude just can't live without country music! Nashville is not a prime destination for hockey just as Cuba for vacation.

Same what happened with Goose. I don't like that signing at all. But that what needed to be payed to retain him here. UFA is just crazy, so unless you ready to pay you have no place to even sniff around there.

Tserberis is right - UFA is not a place to get a good deal. It is a place to acquire an asset at the expense of money. As a rule, money saved to us has been an asset in the past which has cost us in the realm of Ufa. This is an unfortunate but real truth. Hopefully a perspective and financial change is or will occur in this organization as we are wasting financial power/assets each year with our cheap spending. Unfortunately (again), this may just be a simple reality of this team :/.

I agree, but it still depends on the player. If what Horton is asking for is something (give or take) that Vinny would agree on (for example), why waste the cash on Horton?

If he is the right player you pay him and hope for the best. Nashville not being a hockey destination is not as true as it once was. I firmly believe that has changed with fam support, organization support,Weber, Peka, Josi, Horny, Wilson, and Fisher.
