QOs are very rarely ever signed. They are a formality to retain the player's rights. This isn't news.

I'm puzzle as to why this is a story, or even worth Aaron Ward's time to even tweet it.

Awesome. Fraser is a #7 at best. Him and Kostka should not be brought back.

I don't know but it's funny to see some TML fans going mad for such non-news.

I didn't realize so few people understood Qualifying Offers.

Team extended the lowest contract offer that allowed for them to keep the player's rights.

Player's agent didn't accept it because he's not an idiot. It was a formality and now they can continue to negotiate.

Rejecting a QO doesn't mean much; if a team and player can't come to terms the player can still accept their QO later in the season (but that won't happen here, Fraser will get a 1-way contract).

Honestly, Nonis should just give him a one-way deal. The way he played last year, he deserves it

Exactly.

We give this guy the easiest minutes and a job on the big club and he slaps us in the face. We'll remember this, Mark.... We'll remember this...

Looks like some people here don't know what a qualifying offer is.

This is standard practice and not news.

This may be the 1st situation in a long time, where the player is ACTUALLY worth that contract value, I could care less though and I'd gladly kick him to the curb to watch morgan or even 1 of the marlies play there. The guy literally got exposed every time he played second pairing, and he looked ok in 3rd pair, but anyways, WELCOME BACK TO THE A, they missed u down there, im not going to lie and say that you will be missed much up here either.

One, why wouldn't Toronto try to get the most flexibility possible, and make things easier for their club?
Two, he was on a two-way last year, so when qualifying him they had to offer a two-way again.

Fraser said no, like he had every right to, and like most players do to the first offer in negotiations, and will stay RFA and the two parties will continue negotiating.

It's not news-worthy in that Fraser didn't want a two-way deal, its news-worthy in that a tendered QO offer was turned down, and it was justifiably reported on.

leaf fans, you realize he was your 3rd best dman last year right?

he played out of his mind. he certainly deserves a 1 way contract. I'd kill for a player like him on the pens.

I bet he signs a 1 yr deal around 850k-1mil.
Truthfully, I think he has earned more. I thought he was a big part of the Leafs' D last season. I can see 2x$1.75M.

If it ever comes to that, the Habs should him a one way forward at minimum salary and play him vs the tougher team.

He earned a 1 way deal. It's a slap in the face to offer him anything but a 1 way. He'll get around 850,000 - 1 million on a 1 way and he deserves it.

per Darren Dreger this morning

Quote:
Large gap in the Leafs arb case with Mark Fraser. Toronto offering $855,000 & Fraser has requested $2 mil.
Generally, arbitrators usually split the difference, which in this case would be somewhere in the $1.4 million arena. James Mirtle speculates that $1.4 would likely be too rich for a player of Fraser's calibre, but it's also too low of a settlement for the Leafs to walk away from. Should be interesting.

I would disagree. He was reliable in essence because hes a defensive player but hes not a very good skater, coughs up the puck easily and struggles in his own zone.
