I could see that happening, especially if we are trading Coburn. I was thinking about something bigger, but if true I would guess we are getting Scuderi

I'm just repeating what he said, fwiw. I have no idea if either has merit.

He also just said that Calgary wanted Coburn AND Read to swap #11 and #6.

Is UFA not 1st of July? Isn't it a bit late to trade for someones rights?

I think he is saying that Scuderi is the only logical player that the Flyers would be interested in and would be available from LA

I have a feeling all of these rumors will pan out to nothing and we draft another center at 11th..

My ideal situation: Trade Coburn for the 5th, and then draft Nich (5th) Risto (11th) Morin with our 2nd round pick.

If we have both of those picks tomorrow I would pick Ristolainen at 5 and then the BPA, which will likely be a forward, at 11. I'm not sure Ristolainen makes it to 11. I hope he does if that is the only first rounder we have tomorrow, but im not so sure he does

I just posted this in the Coburn trade thread as a reason why NOT to trade Coburn:

The rumour of out of LA that Matthew Barry started and Eklund just referred to makes more sense for me.

http://bigmouthbarry.com/grossman-an...rd-and-a-mart/

Trade Grossmann (replaces Scuderi) and Cousins to LA for Clifford and Martinez.

Kings get solid Dman and prospect, Flyers get big winger and mobile Dman.

That would be better, for me, than trading Coburn to get our cap down.

If we got EDM 7th then draft Risto, but I think 5th would be a stretch.

Having Valeri Nichushkin on Giroux's left would be AMAZING! I like Risto, but would be fine with the other 4 D-men that would be there at 11.

Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek
Simmonds - Schenn - xxxxx
Clifford - Couturier - Read
Rinaldo - Laughton - Talbot
Rosehill

Timonen - Schenn
Streit - Coburn
Gustafsson - Meszaros
Gervais - Martinez

Mason
xxxxx

Moving Grossmann means Coburn goes nowhere. I'm in favor of this.

I would say, however, that I would want a draft pick coming back from LA as well. That or Scuderi's rights.

He would be sick on Giroux's wing, but I don't know if I see the Flyers taking a Russian in the top 10 even if he has said that he wants to play in the NHL, and for the Flyers no less.

FWIW:

*The Lecavalier sweeps are in full gear and I am told six teams made a strong impression today: St Louis, Philly, NJ, Toronto, Dallas and Boston...

*In related news...I am told the Lightning are making a HUGE play for Seguin. And Boston is considering the move if they were to land Vinny.

*The Flyers may make a move for Nabokov's rights at the draft tomorrow...(haven't we been here before?)

* I am told the eighth year the incumbent team has the ability to add to a contract could play a major part in where certain players (like Horton and Dupuis) sign.

* I was told the Canadiens are probably the hottest team in the Letang race. I have also heard Luongo is still far more likely to leave than Schneider.

* The NJ Devils and Red Wings seem to have the most interest in Bobby Ryan as of tonight.

* The Capitals are trying to make a deal with the Oilers for a "major player."

* The Flyers are talking to many teams, but there are many who feel the Kings and Flyers are as close to finishing a deal as anyone.

* Washington and NYR trying to acquire the rights of Scuderi from LA

It would save you guys a lot of salary, and Clifford is like a poor man's version of Simmonds. Dunno how the Kings stay under the cap and re-sign the rest of their RFA's if Mitchell winds up being healthy. It could work though. A lot of us wanted Grossman from Dallas. Both Clifford and Amart will be making under a million. Amart is a solid defenseman whose upside at max is a #4 mobile defenseman, but will likely remain a 5-6; however, he has a great shot and good defensive instincts, nice vision and can move the puck well. He's fallen out of favor after injury and Sutter favor's the upside of Muzzin over him.

Also, Barry doesn't have a whole lot of credibility in trades, but he does get some close. He was the one reporting Frattin + 1st for Bernier. He is the ex-HockeyBuzz blogger for the Kings. Trades was always his weakness, so while the teams may have talked and thrown around some of these names, I wouldn't give it much clout.

We don't need to worry about salary so that's not an issue.

Clifford would also be just lovely on Couturier's wing.

The Flyers want to get bigger and meaner on the outside. This makes a lot of sense.

If Coburn were to stay, Grossmann would be on the 3rd pairing anyway.

Any scouting report on Martinez?

Clifford is awesome. As was said, poor-man's Simmonds.

I don't know much about Martinez though.

hmmm i was thinking the kings would be getting the pick taking on more salary or picking up at least 1 million grossman salary

Martinez is more mobile than Grossmann so he would fit into Lavy's system better. Clifford is more of a 3rd or 4th line grinder, but he would be great with Couturier.

I think it's a fair trade, although I'd rather get Muzzin than Martinez.

EDIT: This is all what I got from watching the Kings in the postseason the past two seasons. I could be wrong.

Grossmann is cheap as hell and is a top 4 physical SDD. He's the best player in the deal in my opinion.

Cousins is also a pesky little guy who can rack up points; the comparison is a Briere that's constantly angry. He can go overboard, but he has skill. He won't be a top line forward but certainly he's a potential third liner.

Now Muzzin is a guy I know a little more about. I'd rather have him all things considered.

If we had two picks in the first round, depending on where they were, I'd be tempted to go for Fucale the top goalie with the lower one. If we got the 5th or 7th for Coburn then maybe try and trade in the 11th for Calgarys later pair of first rounders. Or maybe even the Blue Jackets #19 and 27...
