Trade Board Rules & Regs

Since we're finally about to get some real action starting up again I thought it'd be a good time for everyone to refresh themselves on the rules of the forum. I'm going to break them down into 3 categories and hopefully be as concise as possible.

"Evergreen" Rules:

These are rules that always apply on the main hockey forums and that everyone should be well acquainted with:

1. Flaming!

Put simply, this is a response attacking another poster rather than the contents of their post.

Examples: "Your an idiot." "Anyone who thinks Ballard/Raymond/4th is worth Ryder/Halak/2nd is ********."

2. Trolling!

Is your post a genuine comment on the topic or is it designed only to provoke a reaction? Is it directed primarily at a fanbase on HF? Fans of third party teams (when your team isn't directly involved in a proposal) should tread especially carefully. You can give your opinion, but do so constructively.

Examples: "How's that Kessel trade working out for you lololol" "Dallas fans are the most annoying homers on this site, constantly overrating their players." "Montreal doesn't have what it takes, all your players are horrible."

3. Spam!

Does your post contain content that a monkey sitting at a typewriter would have trouble generating? If so, you're good!

Examples: "This." "Yep." "" "Fixed." "michaeljacksoneatingpopcorn.gif" "Dominoes."

You can post these things, but add some kind of original thought to go along with them. It's not that hard.

Trade Board Specific Rules:

4. Sources!

Sources are important. They're how we know what's trustworthy and what's not. Some random rumor you heard from a friend or saw on another message board isn't good enough. When you're reporting news or a rumor please include your source, note with whom the source is affiliated (website, newspaper, TV channel, etc.), and provide a working link. This goes for tweets as well. Especially for tweets. Nothing is more annoying than people posting fake tweets so don't be that guy. If you're not sure whether your source is credible, don't post it.

Sometimes news breaks via the radio. When that happens, still cite your source, but be aware that what you post may be treated as an unsubstantiated rumor until corroborated by others.

Insiders: We welcome your information. However, before you post please contact an admin (dark blue names) to be vetted.

You can skip this step if your source is one of the prefixes already available for new topics (i.e. Eklund, McKenzie, Dreger). Speaking of which...

5. Prefixes!

Use them correctly! There's a big difference between Rumor: Crosby to Toronto and Proposal: Crosby to Toronto.

6. Outlandish Proposals!

OK, this one is a little tricky to define. If you find yourself including half of the league in your trade, maybe it's not such a great idea. If you really want that 1st line All-Star on another team but can only bring yourself to part with your team's enigmatic tweener and depth Dman, maybe it's not such a great idea. That said, no player is "off limits" when it comes to discussion. Just because you never want to see your favorite player wearing anyone else's sweater doesn't mean it can't happen. Mike Richards was Cannon until he wasn't.

Temporary Rules:

These are rules that are subject to change depending on how things go.

None right now!

Thanks for reading and let's continue to make this the best place out there to discuss player movement.

Adding this, since I guess it was wiped in the update that Piqued put up ;

Eklund's "source" is allowed, and he has a prefix for a reason.

Don't go into the threads and continually complain about it, and just post senseless spam about it. It's rather annoying and just takes up space.

Props to Nemesis for the signature, and HC for the avatar.

Since it is not readily apparent to some. Making remarks about the quality of a thread or telling someone not to make proposals constitutes as trolling and/or flaming. If you find either the user or thread particularly irksome, then use the ignore feature (press the tiny x on the thread), otherwise it will be treated as spam and may result in an infraction.
