Give me the best possible team you could ice in 2013-14, using trades that other teams WOULD NOT SAY NO TO (i.e. overpay and basically say screw the future). Don't trade picks past this season.

Here's my shot:

1) Sign Briere (4M/1 year)
2) Trade Karlsson and Noesen to Pittsburgh for Malkin
3) Trade Lehner and Mika Zibanejad to Phoenix for Keith Yandle
4) Trade Erik Gryba and Boro to Edmonton for Ales Hemsky
6) Trade Mark Stone, J.G. Pageau and M. Puempel to Pitt for Letang
7) Trade Kyle Turris and 17th overall for Byfuglien
8) Trade Cory Conacher for Derek Dorsett
9) Trade Chris Phillips for a mid-round pick
10) Trade Chris Neil for Derek Brassard
11) Sign Alfe (3M/year)

This roster would be right near the cap and would be competitive for at least a few years.

Michalek - Malkin - Briere
Silf - Spezza - Hemsky
Condra - Brassard - Alfie
Greening - Smith - Dorsett

Letang - Buff
Yandle - Methot
Weir - Cowen

Andy
Scrub
1 Cup for 10 years of drought is not worth it. Even Alfie wouldnt approve of that ^

I want to see the Sens WIN the come, bot buy it. A hard struggle of rebuild, up and downs and then finally being able to hold the cup has the true meaning of winning a championship.

Just sign briere, horton, penner, bickell (tell them you're going for it and getting all these players)
Trade for lucic, chara and buff

Step 1: trade for all the swedes. All of them. Just use a current roster player and add a pick if its an upgrade, take a pick if its a downgrade.

Anderson + 3rd for Lundqvist
Turris + 1st for Eriksson

etc

Step 2 ????
Step 3 Stanley Cup

No offense, but this is the most horrofying proposal ever.

Now, I've been advocating trading a few prospect in the hope for some immediate success. I think we have a great core, a great mix of young players and veterans and more depth in our prospect pool than we have ever had.

We should be able to add a top 6 and a top 4 D by trading Z.Smith, Gryba, Wiercioch, Stone and some picks. But there is no point in trading half of the team for one chance at the cup.

i think it's a good exercise to go through at the beginning/end of each year to see if something is possible and to get an idea of how far away you think you are.
