I know. So not expected to turn into an equivalent level player, which means, there is a downgrade long-term.

Still you have to ask, how many playoff series have we won when we were the underdog going in vs how many we lost while we were the favorite.

Funny, Ranger fans are probably saying the exact same thing.

On paper the NYR look like they might have a better season than the Canucks in 14 too, should be very interesting.

He was being sarcastic. (my impression)

I sure hope Torts' performance in the playoffs isn't lateral to that of AV's. Guess we'll see.

Depends on which players we are talking about, just woke up so the actual trade prospect might have changed but if it's 7th overall, Gagner and Klef for Schneider, Guance 24th this year or 2nd next year)I like that deal for us and it's sellable to the Oilers fro an upgrade in goal, although they would need a legit #2 center going forward

In terms of wins and losses, Vigneault has a better playoff record than Tortorella.....

But he's not as good.

At least Smith is smart enough to stay in Tippett/Burke land....otherwise, we'd likely see him fall back to what he's been everywhere else....waiver fodder.

Comparing Luongo and Mike Smith is like comparing David Clarkson and Corey Perry.

AVs had the better teams (on paper) going in IMHO.

I do not trade Gaunce, nor Schneider. I don't like that deal for us, just IMO.

You're right though, it depends on who you are talking about. To me, if you were talking about someone that could be a #1 at his position, then it's something to think about.

I know, by the math, he does. But I think it was 37-37 to 40-43. Not far off. And with the differences in team quality, I think Torts did more with less. Depends on how you view the strength of NYR though...

Lou can just not report when he wants to retire. Then he loses the money at the end of the deal but the Canucks don't have to pay the penalty

I might be inclined to do something similar to that if Sean Monahan made it to 7.

All of this Edmonton talk is scaring me. Sure they got some nice shiny things to dangle out there but I really don't want to trade Schneider to a hated division rival.

If we do, the only thing I can hope for is that he bolts in two years.

No way I trade Guance though. If we are trading Schneider to EDM they should be thanking their lucking stars, not taking one of our top 2 prospects along with him.

The crazy thing for me is I look at the two teams, and the NYR are a team that seem to be built for the way AV coaches, or likes to at least.

For us, I like the fact Torts has proven he can adapt. So I look forward to seeing what we will be.

Yeah but isn't the league still re-aligning the divisions anyway? What does it really matter when we're all going to be in the same division

Is it just me or does it seem like the Schneider talk has subsided and the Edler talk has heated up?

Canucks are not softening on Schneider's asking price. Might be too rich for the Oilers, but clock is ticking.

Right. We can't afford to move any of our top prospects. The framework is good, but I'd need to see some tweaks to that framework.

That is honestly good news if true. I am glad he isn't content with taking less

Could go down to the wire, here. I wonder if there other teams in on this?

Why would he do that? Out of the goodness of his heart? There is nothing in it for him. Not a chance.
