Might be able to get a late pick for Roy's rights but Raymond? I doubt teams would give up more than a 3rd for the actual PLAYER, can't imagine teams would give anything higher than a 20th round pick for his rights (but since the draft doesn't go that many rounds ...)

Hmmm... I've been so focused (obsessing) over trades, buyouts and the goalie situation that I almost forgot the main purpose of the day is to draft players.

Talks have commenced on new deal for Rask. My bet on cap number is $7.5m-$7.8m
Wowza.

Haven't been this excited for a draft since 2006 but that's because it was the day after we traded for Luongo.

So CBJ wont pay bob 6 million, wonder if they feel one good season does not entitle him to that.

6 million 2 seasons?

IT is alot but is it unfair?

Or is CBJ not a wealthy team, i really dont follow them enough.

If GM's like Holmgren want to keep their job they would be advised to get a damn good goalie and not worry about Luongos contract five years from now because if you don't win now you're not going to be around in five years. If I was a gm I wouldn't give a **** about 5-10 years down the road. Just win, build a nice resume for yourself and you'll always find work.

As a percentage of the cap, not that far out of line. Would have thought it would be 7m though.

And in 2 years when the cap rises back to $70m+, Cory Schneider, if as good as most of us project, will be looking for that same 12% of the cap....$8.4m....talk about wowza.

*sorry thought I was in a different thread. Back to the draft.

Rask and his agent are likely looking at the Mike Smith deal and thinking, "If Mike Smith is worth $5.7 mil, I'm worth at least $7 mil."

Makes me think that Lu's contract isnt quite as bad as some think. $9.3 mil for Lu and Schneids is a complete bargain if Rask gets $7 mil or more.

So if we somehow end up with 7th overall in a CS trade with Edmonton, who do you guys want? For me personally I think Lindholm is a step above Monahan, so realistically I would rank the following:

Nichushkin
Lindholm
Monahan

I hope we go forward at 7 if we get it. If not, I want Ristolainen, Nurse or Morin.

I would take Monahan and its not even close. Leading scorer on his team, played the toughest minutes, strong defensively, good size. He may even be NHL ready this year.

I understand the desire but can't see Gillis going that route. Monahan sure would be nice going forward. A future combo of Kesler/Monahan/Gaunce is pretty damn good at center.

Intangibles, man.

Seriously though, I'd take Lindholm over Monahan. I think Monahan will be a very good 2C, but Lindholm will be an average 1st line centre.

Agreed.

Although, I think Lindholm's ceiling is higher than an average 1C. IMO his absolute ceiling is a Giroux type player, but average 1C is pretty likely IMO (Patrice Bergeron type).

Nickushkin is flat out the better player. He is the best player of the 3, there is the Russian factor and stuff but if we feel comfortable about him being committed it is an easy choice cause he is definetly the best of the 3.

Although my 2nd choice would be Monahan.

Nichushkin has a skillset and toolbox that few in this draft possess (if any at all). But he apparently had a very poor combine where he quit midway through some of the tests and interviewed poorly. It would be too risky for my blood when there are guys like Monahan still on the board.

We just cannot afford to have a player like him not report and stay in Russia. That would set us back for years. A team with a deep prospect pool can take a very calculated gamble on him.
