Has the deal been officially CONFIRMED yet?
I know they were still hashing out details (probably the list of 15 teams).

The players suffering and getting short changed under the new CBA was such BS.

It's a competitive market with no collusion after the CBA is signed, the players are always going to get paid huge dollars, can't believe we blew half a season because of that.

You mean the posts that prove absolutely nothing? The Blackhawks didn't have money tied up in useless players like MA Fleury.

Again, Giroux has nothing to do with this Letang signing. I must have really upset you huh?

In Shero We Trust. Cap situation will be tight, but not impossible to manage. Martin , Orpik , and Niskanen are all gonna be UFAs soon, too. They can probably be replaced with cheaper UFAs and/or rookies until the cap goes up enough.

Jesus with all the Flyer fans pissing and moaning, as if the Streit deal wasn't laughable enough, you are also paying a 38 soon to be 39 year old Kimmo Timonen 6 millions dollars this coming year!

By those cap numbers of those two old dinosaurs, I'd rather be paying a 26 year old Letang 12 million dollars a year for the remainder of that contract than have either one of those guys on my roster!

The guy with 2 40+ win seasons, 3 35+ win seasons, and a cup is useless?!

You're right Steve Mason has proved and done SO MUCH more...

It's pretty funny though. Looking at the Penguins board during the playoffs, it was clear how horrific Pens fans thought he was. But now all of a sudden $7.25 isn't an overpayment? I'm not an NHL GM, so I'm sure Shero has it all planned.

You're forgetting the players that are a year or two from getting big raises.

Here are the players who will need new contracts in 2 or less years. Bolded will be top 5 paid players and increase that %, IMO:

CHI: Kane, Toews, Bolland, Saad, Hjalmarsson, Crawford(maybe)

LA: Brown, Stoll, Clifford, Greene

BOS: Krejci, Bergeron, Rask, Seidenberg, Hamilton

Today I realized you can't have a conversation about the Penguins without the Flyers constantly being brought up. What thread do I go to to talk about the Letang signing?

Crosby/Malkin/Letang/Neal

$30.45 mill

over 50% of cap in 4 guys.

I guess that's how it is in the days of the no back-diving contract.

You would think that a Flyers fan like yourself would be upset & more obsessed with Holm and his many failures as Philadelphia GM instead of predicting any failed GM future move that mostly successful Ray Shero has made like resigning Letang.

I love when Flyer fans comment on other teams cap hell, when the Flyers use LTIR like champs.

I think it's just a tad high, but he might grow into it in a year or two. He is still just 26. It looks like he came down a bit on asking price as well. Three, I'm sure its been said, but as a Penguins fan, I'm still not sold. Apart of me still feels like this could be a sign and trade. Its not out of the question. Depending how you look at it as a Pens fan, this could be good or bad.
That's just crazy. People have a right to be frustrated. You don't think this contract affects negotiations for Greene, Girardi etc.?

LOL at a Flyer's fan having no grasp on the cap.

You do realize that the Flyers have 5 players under contract for next year right?

Can't wait to see what G signs for.

I was thinking the same. They wanted him traded away what seemed like pretty badly and now this is a great deal. I don't see that cap hit as a good thing for a player they hoped to have moved. Either way as a non Pens fan I'm happy with this.

A higher AAV than Drew Doughty, after the cap goes down. There doesn't seem to be good value in this deal for Pittsburgh. What percentage of their cap do the Pens now have tied up in Crosby, Malkin, Neal, Martin, Letang, and Fleury?

EDIT: I see Letang's cap number doesn't kick in until 2014-2015, but still how does he get more than a player like Doughty, a defenseman that actually knows how to play defense?
