LeBrun just posted on twitter that Fenton said they really wanted Jones and were hoping he fell to 4th.

It'll be Weber-Josi, Klein-Jones. At least for the time being.

I just wish he was a left handed shot.

Jones is a killer prospect, that D + Rinne is scary good. Jones will certainly help generate offense from the blue line.

It's really fascinating to see the reaction on this board vs the reaction of the rest of the hockey world- almost universal praise from every hockey expert-("absolute steal")

I know we needed a forward, I wanted a forward- but I just don't see how you can be THAT disappointed in getting this kind of a stud player at #4 for goodness sakes

Maybe Jones can QB a power play. That would be awesome.

If you like Jones so much, the Bruins can have him.

I give the Preds two weeks to fix the offense before:

I think it is hard for us to have perspective here. BPA pick.
Problem is, with no 2nd round pick, any fwd help has to come via trade or compliance buy-out. Admittedly a tough row to hoe. But Jones as a talent would be a hard asset to pass up.

Does this mean other D prospects are now tradeable? With Jones being seen as NHL ready?

Ditto, I was foaming at the mouth for Barkov, but you can't pass on Jones there.

The future trade scenarios, the less pressure on Pekka and the rest of our D-men, and the returned health of Wilson and development of Forsberg may right the ship more than we're anticipating. Pure need can be addressed in FA. We just drafted, if not the consensus best, the consensus 1B in this draft. Nothing to be sad about. If Barkov/Drouin would have been on the board, yeah, you think about it long and hard, but given who was taken it was a complete no brainer.

Now Poile doesn't have to focus so much on D. We will have about $7 to add offense. Come to Nashville Vinny!!

We've had the elite defense and didn't get past the 2nd round because we couldn't score.

The offseason just started, the three best offensive players were taken with the top 3 picks, Jones was by far the best player available and ranked #1 or #2 overall and we got him at 4. I'm not seeing the problem.

If Poile doesn't add any offense in the offseason I would understand the frustration, I'm not seeing it right now though.

On the bright side, the last time we took a defenseman in the first round he was a midget. At least Jones has some size.

With the big three gone - Jones was best pick - so Poile did not screw up. Note Carolina passed on Nick.

Nope. I'm with you!

We got the best player in the draft at #4.

Unless anyone seriously expected Barkov to come in a be a 40-40 guy next year, I don't see any merit in the whole "we didn't fill our need" argument.

Besides, those screaming for offense are forgetting one thing - we had a pretty dang good offense when the power play was working - when we were led by a slick puck moving defenseman in #7.

Was hoping for a dynamic forward but it is pretty cool that a Texan gets drafted by an NHL team.

Yes. Note that he's still on the board and 2 more forwards just went.

Nichushkin is far far from a sure thing.
