I will say this, I hate that we went defense again, but then they show all these offensive players teams that keep drafting high, like Colorado and Florida, have and I remember that we make the playoffs more than we miss.

Thanks but we all know that......... Point is- how can you pass on the best player in the draft at NUMBER 4?? Answer- you can't.

And it is not that black and white about not advancing in the playoffs because you can't score. The Penguins have Crosby, Malkin, and a roster full of offensive stars, and even they couldn't score against the Bruins........ Even if we had had another forward like a Barkov 2 years ago, there is no guarantees we win the Phoenix series or score more......

After the initial kneejerk "**** it's not a forward" reaction, I'm warming up to it. Our defense with Rinne is just stupidly absurd. Going to be a few more years of 1-0 / 2-1 games, but I can deal with it.

I am very happy with the pick if Ellis is moved. I am okwith the pick if he isn't moved. It's hard not to be flattened by failing to draft an offensive talent at forward.

How far does Nichushkin have to fall before you want the Preds to try and trade up for him?

Not necessarily.

Offense wasn't a problem 2 years ago when our power play was lights out and we finished 8th in GF.

Pretty much the one thing we lost from that team was a slick puck moving defenseman who can QB the power play.

That just so happens to be one of Jones strengths. You can manufacture offense. You can't cover for a bad defense - how many of those teams drafting around us are there because they can't score - or because they can't defend. Yet they keep taking offense.

The more I think of it, yes, I think Ellis is now expendable, and I think there is still interest in him from other teams. I would love to get a late 1st (unlikely) or a high 2nd for him plus a 3rd.

We still have Forsberg, Wilson was comming to his own, Hard working Bourque can score a few. I think we'll be fine for scoring.

I'm happy with Jones, we have our defense set and now we can sign some free agents

We are disappointed because we have little faith in Poile's ability to draft some offensive talent. The only way he drafts an offensive star is by drafting a can't miss player high. Absolutely nothing against Jones, because we are very lucky to get a #1 overall quality player at #4. The disappointment is our lack of faith in Poile.

Now you have to trade Ellis and Blum. Trade them both.
Blum is a given, if anyone will take him. Ekholm is also now superfluous. Bartley too but he probably doesnt have much value on his own and is good depth

Ellis is going nowhere. He's Housley's project, whats nice is now there is no pressure on him to be anything more than a 3rd pair PP specialist.

what is really intriguing is does this now make Klein or Josi tradable if thats what it would cost to get a true top 3 forward

Geez, I know Niederreiter has underachieved but trading him for Clutterbuck?

Probably thought he was going to Colorado or Tampa. Thank goodness he didn't get picked up by Florida as we've seen that face already by Barkov.

We'll all be ok ... not that we don't want Jones; just wanted a Forward. Our D should be beastly though!

Nothing we should take personally. He wanted to go first or second or third. Can't blame him for being unhappy.

I completely disagree. Ellis is expendable and needs to go or help up front.
