This guy is a beast. I saw him 65+ games this season. Fantastic in every aspect.

One of the smartest players of the draft. Plus amazing speed and hands.
Thanks, it's nice to get reports from those who have seen him play.

Realy, Wennberg has everything expect shot.

Reminds me of Zetterberg in many ways.

I think it would be smart to keep him in Sweden another year.

I emailed TSN draftcentre podcast about Wennberg. Listen.
24:30 into it.

He's staying in Sweden if he doesn't make the big team

Wennberg has played all three forward positions for DIF, so he's not limited to center. He's been highly adaptable, playing any role that he was needed from being a skilled top line guy to a shut-down role. All as an 18 year old.

He's moving on to Frölunda of the SEL next season since DIF is still stuck in Allsvenskan. He'll get a chance to really develop his offensive skill there.

Wennberg isn't a bad pick at all guys. He will fit nicely into our system.

For those bringing up Wennberg going to Springfield, I don't think Europeans (or any non-N. Americans) can go to the AHL until they are 20.

He can play RW, C and LW. Has jumped between them all this season. The speed and hands are obvious. But what I love about him. Is that he doesn't play like a juniorkid. Not full speed all the time. He is smart enough to know when to slow the play down, and when to speed it up. And that is very rare at that age. He dictactes the tempo of the game when he is on the ice.

He has been a key on the penalty kill on Djurgården too, just because of his smartness. Some say he lacks strength... Well, he doesn't play physical. But he is very hard to knock over. He has terrific balance and in the corners he wins most battles because of that.

I was quite disappointed during the WJC when the swedish coach decided to use him in a defensive role, cause Sweden didn't really have anyone who could take that role. It didnt show his offence enough and it could have hurt him in the draft. Eventually they started to use him in the Holmström-role on the PP. But he should really be the guy who holds the puck.

If you wonder about his 1 goal season in the juniors during 11/12. Well, he didn't drive the net enough, he played the outside all the time. He realised it had to change and he scored 14 goals amongst men the following year.

Edit:
Again: 24:30 into this podcast. I emailed Craig Button about him.

What does Ottawa need? Detroit could use D if there is any good left.

Trade coming. Hope its not us going down.

I like the Wennberg pick for Columbus. I'm hoping you guys nab Rychel/Zykov with the next few picks.

Either Mantha or Shinkaruk will be on the board when we pick again.

In comparison to another DIF recent draft pick, Wennberg has more pure skill than Mika Zibanejad. Zibanejad has a physical element to his game that Wennberg doesn't have because he's still playing like a smaller player, but he has the defensive awareness. Wennberg also is a better skater.

Wennberg is exactly the player I was hoping CBJ would take at 14, but I really figured he would have been taken right before the pick. I'm no draft expert of course but so excited none the less.
