You mean the Rostislav Olesz who played at 0.28PPG pace in a quite high scoring Czech league at age 18? Barkov had PPG in FEL at age 17. You mean the Denis Schvidki who was drafted from the OHL and was said to be fairly weak defensively the Denis Schvidki who at his prime in 09-10 season signed a try-out contract with Kärpät (FEL) and didn't cut the team after failing miserably in KHL? You say Barkov has those guys written all over him?
Barkov was a first line center in FEL. He was said to be the best two-way center in FEL and arguably was more valuable than Mikko Koivu during the lock-out months in FEL. At age 16 he had 0.5PPG with being the only plus player on the team in the +/- stats and playing 1st PK and 5vs3 PK. At age 17 he had 0.9PPG with defensive game being one of the best in the league, played 1st PK, 1st PP, 5vs3 PK, last minutes of the games etc. The game he actually played against Mikko Koivu he was the best player on the ice potting 2 goals against Koivu's line.
I admit I wasn't following Panthers at the time those two players were drafted, might be they were also touted as "the most ready prospect of 99/04" but I highly doubt it. To me it seems there is nothing remotely close to what you are saying written all over this.
sorry, should've taken my words with a grain of salt, for some reason those are the guys that came to mind at the time of the pick (maybe because of the Panthers Euro high pick relation), just sort of a gut reaction type of thing...
with that said, nothing is set in stone dude.....but, obviously I want to hope for the best, as I stated in my previous post, this kid seems legit, so obviously I'm over the initial reaction and I support the pick. We need offense and this could (crossing fingers and prying to the hockey gods) be that real # 1 center we have needed
I don't see why Kane is a reach for MacKinnon. 5'11" is an average size. There's a lot of talented players who aren't 6'2". I wouldn't worry too too much about the size. Barkov's size is a plus that I'm glad we got, but MacKinnon is not an undersized player.
Seriously, I'm not here to debate with you about MacKinnon and Barkov and whatever. You're more than welcome to think what you want. MacKinnon is a Colorado Avalanche so... who cares? What's done is done. And you don't need the pompous attitude. I'm not here to fight you, relax.
So, what you're saying is that you don't have an argument for why MacKinnon is better than Barkov?
