Canucks fan in peace here. I'm glad Schneider went to a great team with great fans, and I'm sure you will enjoy watching him play. I feel the Devils won this trade and then some, all the best to the Devils and Cory this year, and in the future.

This may add a little longevity to Martys career, which i'm super happy about. He can't start 70+ games anymore, but he would be an awesome backup for another few seasons playing 25-30 games behind Schneider. Maybe get him another cup

Thanks.

I think many, MANY of us are ecstatic about getting Cory but the shock value and dreams of what might have been are stunning some critics into giving a false bravado to this deal from the fans perspective here.

They'll revisit these feelings in a year or two and wonder why they didn't instantly love it.

I'm going to love it just for the ginger jokes.

I love Marty a lot more now that he's playing 20-25 games a year than I did yesterday when he was needed for 50+.

I've never seen any bashing of Schneider for his pads, that is reserved for Luongo and Lundqvist. His seem reasonable to me.

Agree with this. I think that Marty and Schneider might split starts early on, but if it becomes clear that Schneider is the better choice (and I think it will), he gets the majority of the starts down the stretch.

The thing is, Brodeur really was that good in the 2012 playoffs - a legitimate Conn Smythe candidate. But I think that kind of makes it easy for some people to forget that he has been below average for the last three regular seasons and that he somehow channeled the Fountain of Youth during that playoff run.

We also got him for a steal after what Colorado paid Washington for Varlamov two years ago. He's already played in almost twice as many games, and is much better than Varlamov was then and is now. They paid the Caps a first rounder for Varlamov two years ago, and Schneids is much more proven.
Let's not get carried away.

True, Marty's stickhandling will be missed a lot, but at this point, he just lets in too many stinkers. It happens... he's over 40.

I'm OK with getting Schneider, and people are saying our goaltending is set now for years to come, but there's no guarantee he'll sign with us after 2 years???

Any chance Marty is the one that retires?

Just don't know how he'll handle a backup role.

Reid Boucher had better rock my world.

Lou really didn't think we needed a forward?

Maybe he and Lou talked and said its time, plus they talked to Vinny L and he wants to sign with us, letting us give the #9 spot away !!

There's never any guarantee.

He'll get to play with the GOAT. And Marty is high on him:

Brodeur will go against Canucks goalie Cory Schneider, who turns 26 on March 18.

"He's one of the young, great goalies that we have in the league," Brodeur said. "I think he's going to be in demand pretty soon. I think a lot of teams will be the guy to be the next coming if you can't get somebody in the draft. Vancouver knows they have a great asset in him. They keep playing him in good games to try to keep him sharp because last year I think he helped them a little bit in the playoffs when he was able to jump in and out.

"But eventually I think it's going to be tough to keep him. I think the team that is able to grab him will find him a No. 1 goalie."
I think he'll grow into being a Devil and stick around when his time comes and #30 is retired (in more ways than one).

Zero chance - he gets 5 million this year.

Marty won't retire. He still has too much battle left. I'm sure he will give Schneider a good fight for the #1 goalie spot too.

we need a goalie a lot more than we need a forward. We can get a forward like zykov in round 2

So Moose has one year left and a no trade clause. I can't imagine him getting any ice time this year. In that regard, it's a shame, but given his age it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

It's not like Schneider will be ecstatic to come to a new place and be no.2 again.
But that's just it. He'll be #1 after Marty leaves....

tbh outside of nichushkin there wasn't much else i was excited about at 9 anyway. i'd always take a known over an unknown and he filled a huge need for far less value than anticipated. in addition, perhaps it makes the devils a more appealing option for free agents. hope lou is very active later this week

at first, i was like the same, and thought we need a RW etc etc...but then i thought: ****, getting a good RW is WAAAY easier then getting a good goalie...

so fuuuck yes, Schneider in NJ is awesome - next will be a Top 6 winger and HERE WE GO!

There will not be a Top 6 winger in this draft for the Devils....unless you're talking about Free Agency and Vinny LeCavalier(then I would agree).
