I think he'll be a good 3rd line center with potential to move up to the 2nd line. It's not good enough for a top 10 pick. This is such a "safe" pick. Hard worker, good at faceoffs, solid defense. That sounds like Gaunce and Kesler. This team really needs a 1st line sniper and after Nichoushkin fell it should have been him.

Dat skill

How is drafting a 3rd line C in the top 10 a good move? Who will score? This is eerily similar to passing on Kopitar.

Looks identical to Shinkaruks goal in the U-18's i think. OT vs Finland if I'm getting that right.

love this pick and the Shinkaruk one aswell. Great draft day by the Canucks so far.

Looks like we drafted a better skating Ryan O Reilly, thats just awesome

I would've preferred Nichushkins, but I can deal with Horvat.

Bo is way more advanced than Kesler at this stage and it's easy to project him as a top tier 2nd line 2 way forwards.

Nichoushkin is more skilled but not polished and everyone knows how Filatov turned out. The KHL shadow simply looms large in todays NHL.

I saw in the main draft boards that if Nichoushkin wasn't able to play in the NHL next year or become a star, that he would go back to Russia.

How was Kelser less advanced? He put up 31 points in 40 games at Ohio State in his draft year, played in the NHL the very next year, and then put up 30 goals with the Moose during the lockout. It was only after 05 that he plateaued a little before realizing his potential. Horvat has a lot to prove to be mentioned with the likes of Kesler.

At the same stages of their careers Ryan's offensive ceiling was seen as lower than Bo's and Bo projects as a better offensive player for his career IMO.

I felt this way about Bo before we drafted him as well.

Yeah, at the time of his draft, Kesler was expected to be a high end 3rd liner, topping out as a second liner.

Horvat is further along at this stage, but you don't expect someone to suddenly get so good the way Kesler did either

Slow start last season, but lit it up after that.

First 27 games: 8 goals and 8 assists, 16 points.

Last 61 games including playoffs: 41 goals and 27 assists, 68 points. Seems like a very effective goal scorer at least.

I'm sure many people will correct me, but I feel like he's a Gaunce clone.

Horvat is a better skater I think with more intangibles.

The only things I think Gaunce does better are his shot and he's obviously bigger. Horvat is a better skater and a better passer. He also has more skill with the puck.

More of a Boone Jenner clone. He did light it up in the playoffs so it will be interesting to see if he has a lot of room to develop

Nothing wrong with this pick at all. Horvat is future captain material. He and Shinkaruk could be our Toews and Kane going forward (to an extent.)
