I'm saying he's a third line C and his numbers won't translate. You tell me.
You said Gauthier skate sucks then say skating can be taught? Won't that apply to him as all?

Well, you can't really assume you're going to get a #1 center picking the 20's, and we already have a #2 looking forward in Kadri, so I guess if you can get a guy who you think can be among the better #3's in the league at the least, that's still making a good value pick.

Not a pick to change the course of the future, but a pick that should certainly improve the team. Can't argue with that.

You think Shinkaruk has 1 line potential?

Gauthier is way bigger and stronger and has a longer and more powerful stride, therefore in relative terms he is the better skater.

Skating can be taught to an extent...but that's just stating the obvious.

Just like shooting, passing, blocking shots, saving pucks, hitting, defence, and nearly any other facet of the game of hockey...

I never said it won't. The poster I quoted makes it seem like Shinkaruk's game won't translate cause of skating. I never made the same claim about Gauthier.

Any team would be lucky to get an NHL 3rd line center from a late 1st round pick.

Here's something you can't teach...

Being 6'5 as opposed to 5'10...

Go Leafs Go!

Powerful stride = a longer stride, which means less explosiveness.

If everything can be taught, why do you want the player with the lower ceiling?

That would be his max, which is about the same for Gauthier. Maybe Kessel and Staal, but I still wouldn't trade Kessel for Jordan Staal.

But we already have Kessel. Would you prefer another Kessel or Jordan Staal?

LOL, did you just compare Shinkaruk to Phil Kessel? Or did you mean Blake?

He doesn't need to be explosive at 6'5.

See Joe Thornton? Hanzal? Heck even Malkin..

They look slow but when you realize how big and easy their stride is, they are actually skating quite well.

At 5''10, Hunter better be an amazing skater and a physical specimen....but he isn't.

Everything can be taught to an extent...but you seem to think a player can just learn how to skate all over again. I think that's ridiculous.

Fact is you can watch guys like Kessel and Rielly skate all day, studying each and every stride every day but 99.9% of people will still never approach their ability..

He's a solid pick. Best case scenario is a 2a center, worst case a 3rd line center with great defense and huge size to intimidate... win/win
