So now we know why Traverse or some other waivers pick-up wasnt enough and Gainey went after Niinimaa. Bouillon goes to the long term injury list this year and having him back is possible since we lose one or two of the UFA dmen anyway.

Remember all those posters that thought Habs will have to trade away one of their dmen, doenst look like it anyway. Injuries came, as predicted.

Cube being out for the season would be a significant loss. He's one of the better bottom pairing defencemen in the league. He plays with heart, delivers huge hits, makes good outlet passes, and although he's undersized, he does an admirable job containing guys down low most of the time.

As is the case with most players, he is overrated by some, and underrated by others. I wouldn't say the loss would be catastrophic, but it might be if Souray, Rivet and Markov continue to underperform defensively all season long. I'm confident those guys will find their game soon enough though.

For now, I have to say I'm very impressed with Streit (much more than I am with Niinimaa) and I think that this is a huge chance for him to show management what he's capable of. Hopefully, he demonstrates the ability to play well consistently, as 3 of our big guys are UFAs at the end of the season. In his first 2 games, I'd say Streit has done a very good job, and the more he plays, the more confident he'll get.

The reason why I said ''pretty sure'' and not completely sure is because I am not sure if they can use the 1M in free cap space to bring in a ''replacement'' for Bouillon's cap hit. In other words, could they bring in a center making 2.75 M and not have that center count on the cap?

How many good centers make 1.75 M and are available? If it's 2.75 M then that would give us more options.

Not many I guess but something would have to be traded away to get that center and a little more cap room would open up. Question becomes who would be moved to acquire that center.

Maybe Gainey is pulling off a LOU Lamorello MOVE.
He says CUBE is hurt real bad and may have to retire later this year, places him on long term with option to retire, picks up more CAP space, makes a move for a Center, and as the year progresses he puts on another smaller move and SUDDENLY the CUBE is cured and is back. HOW IT FIT A $46-$48mil payrole in a $44mil CAP by Lou Lamorello.

Bouillon's on injured reserve, so his cap number is already excluded. The long-term injury list is irrelevant here. The only reason it mattered for Mogilny is because he was over 35.

Of the proposed centres to pick up Comrie interests me the most, but he makes a lot of money. I'm not sure he'd be available, anyway.

Yop.This is true.My source told me the same thing. He had the choice to do two type of surgery and took the one that healed the fastes, but it didnt fix the problem.I will probably do the surgery that will fix the problem, but he will have to remain out for the season.I think his career will come first
