Doesn't seem like we're really getting value from it, though I don't have a handle on the draft pick compensation chart like there is in the NFL.
I agree, I don't really see the value. If it's anything like the NFL, next year's 4th is the same as this year's 5th, roughly, and the 203 pick is throw-in garbage. Not seeing where the Preds come out ahead in this trade at all, really - though crying over a late 4th rounder is sorta spilled milk.
The value seems to roughly even out - assuming our late 4th this year turns into an earlier 4th next year, which is a pretty big assumption, and to me (and the nature of trades) is the Preds getting the lesser end of the deal. The team giving up their pick should always come out on top from a value perspective - otherwise why trade it in the first place?
At best, the value roughly evens out with us getting pick 203. Hopefully the fourth round is better next year and the guy at 203 manages to produce something.
At worst, we get a worse 2014 4th round pick than we had this year with whatever no-name we get at 203 tacked onto the deal.
Mitch Korn and our goalie success is the lifeblood of this organization. We saw what nearly happened the year Mason/Ellis collectively $%#^ the bed.... if Pekka hadn't been waiting in the wings, we were dead. I'll never complain about a goalie pick by this team unless it is in the first round.
What can you tell us about him? Seems like a big kid with decent offensive chops who needs to get bigger... not bad for where he's being picked, but still not really what we needed most out of this draft.
