A little OT but can the soccer experts tell me what's the deal with the Confederation Cup? Is that a young tournament? Why does that exist anyway? Thanks.

It's a cup between the champions of every continental tournament plus the world champion and the host(generally the host of the World Cup). It's main purpose is to see if the country is ready to host the World Cup and what changes they have to do. It's not super important but I feel, at least here in Qc, that TVA Sports is making it look much more important than it is to attract viewers.

Hardcore soccer fans don't really care about confederations cup, but occasional viewers like to watch international soccer games, and confederations cup offers them just that. The fact that top countries went with their full squad and are not using this tournament only to do some sort of experiments is also contributing to the interest from people.

I gotta admit, it's the first time I'm watching confederations cup games, and we've had some great games so far. I'm expecting a spectacular showing in the final tonight.

Uruguay and Italy tied at 2 with 10 minutes left. Tony Marinaro must be having a seizure, lol.

Thanks for reminding me this was happening guys! With the draft and all I completely forgot.

This'll be playing on mute in the background of my draft day bash.

If they're tied, is there an OT or do they go straight to SO?

Extra Time then Penalty kicks which what happened and Italy won. Buffon was great in the penalties stopping 3 shots.

Maybe I missed it, but what happened to Justin Mapp? He hasn't played or even been on the bench since the Columbus game.

He previously had a thigh injury. That's probably reemerged, either that or he got bumped out of the lineup.

One good thing is that none of the games are in October.

the LA road game from the spring that was postponed is early october, so more games there would be really problematic.

Going through the Schedule:

We have July 27th(home-SKC), and Aug 2 (DC), 7 (Home-SJ), 10 (Chicago). But thats not "too" bad.

then Aug 17(home-DC), 21(guatamala), 24(home-Houston), 31(philly)

Luckily DC sucks, but going to Guatamala then playing Houston at home 3 days later is gonna be tough.

I don't know if they are allowed to Charter for CCL games. I think they are. I hope they do for this one.

Then we have a break, followed by a tough run:

Sept: 14(home-Columbus), 17(SJ), 21(Home-Vancouver), 24(Home-Heredia) and 28(Chicago)

17th is a Tuesday, so I assume they'll fly soon after the Columbus game. I really hope they seal up the CCL by then, because it'll be tough sending many of our starters there. Otherwise nothing too bad.

The final midweek game is the LA one

Oct 12(Home-Revs), 16(LA), 19(Home-Philly)

Hopefully we have our playoff postion secure by then( if not the supporters shield!) Because sending a full squad to LA is not ideal.

So overall, there's a few problem spots, but nothing worse than we went through in April/May

Beautiful. Now can we sign someone besides Yaya Sanogo?

That stretch in mid to late september is brutal. I just feel for Camara and Brovsky, I hope neither get injured.

Our monthly question: when is Rivas supposed to be back? Lol. He's really not coming back, with all the games we have in august and september acquiring a defenseman is a must.

We also didn't hear any news about Del Piccolo. Seems like he didn't get a contract.
