I don't know anything about this guy but from what I see on the clips, he fights. McIlrath was a wrecking ball in juniors. He destroyed people.

Good pickup. Another pick similar to Noreau, but with better wheels, which is why he went earlier by one round.

Every draft should have one such kid (Big Pun) in the mid-rounds. Eventually one will work out.

Good stylistic pick here. Big kid who plays with an edge and will need time due to that size.

Why can't they select a forward who plays like this?

Why draft a kid with an edge when you can overpay goons every July?

Jessiman, Falardeau, Graham, Byers, Flatt, Wilson, Werek, Jonasen, McNaught, Dupont, Foote, Walsh, Murray......

Wasn't too long ago that everyone was moaning that the Rangers were ignoring skill and speed to draft stonehand grinders.

My first thought.
Well you notice that he didn't complain after we made this pick?

Graves is similar to Noreau. But a better skater and not as good of a fighter.
By the way, thanks for answering my question.

Should of said it earlier.

Every offseason, without fail, Sather gets his goon. This time he's trying the draft.

Had a pretty average interview with Cerny afterwards. Very shy kid. Don't know if New York is the best place for him.

We had a lot of forwards like that in 11-12 and all people wanted was skill. Players with edge outside of the top 6 are not that difficult to find, but skill players are. A lot more of the former available in free agency for cheaper.

I always wonder why people use the word "average" like that. I think you meant to say poor but didn't want to take a shot at an 18 year old kid.

I would argue that the easiest to find are bottom six players with limited skill. Not a shock. But next easiest would be one dimensional offensive players. They are more difficult to find, but still readily available every offseason. I'm talking about the Brieres, PAPs, Semins, MZAs of the world.

What is damn near impossible to find via trade or FA are skilled players who bring an edge. Simmonds, Lucic, prime Clowe, Bickell, etc. Teams don't let them go until they have to, and if they make it to FA they earn silly contracts. You cant have players like that at an appropriate cost unless you draft them.

Our Bickel just needs one more L to be like the better one. I'm convinced.
