Markov is getting older and declining, Edler can be a good succession plan for years to come. I like this a lot.

Seeing how much Letang got, Subban will get around the same.

Markov will probably be gone by the time Subban is ready for a new deal, also could easily find a half price replacement for say someone like Gorges..

I really hate Vancouver right now for picking Hunter before us... I mean really?

Would love to pluck Edler from them.

if they move edler then they'd really need a PMD back.. it has to be either beaulieu or diaz. praying its diaz

Depends what Vancouver would ask for but I think Edler can definitely help this team going forward

From watching him here in BC, Edler's play has regressed since the playoffs two years ago. I don't know if it's just a confidence issue but he's really not playing to his $5M per season long term deal.

As to why the Canucks are looking at doing this, it's because they have too many defensemen and they need to shed some salary for next year.

I wouldn't:

1. Tinordi meets a need for our team, while Edler is a nice addition to a blue line that is already good at moving the puck.

2. The salaries of Moen and Desharnais aren't enough to make up the gap between the perceived value of Tinordi and Edler. Also Desharnais is a good player, despite the contract.

I would move any of the three, no problem. Edler's a top pairing guy signed for a good price through the rest of his prime.

Options are there.
Cap goes up but so does Subban. 6-7 million dollar range. We are trying to build let's not forget that. Edler really doesn't do much for us. Our problem on the back end is defense not offense.

Not suggesting they go move Tinordi. But if that's what Vancouver wanted, sure. Edler's world class and signed throughout the rest of his prime. I'd take my chances with a defence of Subban, Edler, Markov, Emelin, Gorges, Diaz the next two seasons.

Vancouver would probably ask for JT. It would be tough, Tinordi can fill a big role on the Habs D. Would rather move Beaulieu or Diaz.

and we'll have plenty of money once markov and gionta's contracts are off the books, signing a top pairing PMD for 5M is actually amazing. we have to start thinking about a replacement for markov

imo at the very least every team needs to have 2 strong PMD's

diaz/beaulieu + 1st rounder + Kristo/Leblanc for Edler

If we can get a deal like this done id be one happy camper.

Subban-Edler (top pairing in league)
Markov-Emelin (Potential Sochi squad paring)
Georges-Tinordi (Reliable, great on pk)

Beaulieu would be that succession, plus IMO he's only one year away from making a big impact offensively in the NHL.

This only makes sense if we are trading Markov. Edler isn't very good defensively.

the fact that MTL is one of the front-runners for edler tells me that markov is gone after this season

Edler can go beastly in the playoffs. In the playoffs he seems to hit to kill.

When Edler is on, he's awesome.

When he's off, he's an utter disaster.

I wouldn't mind getting Edler, probably will cost more than we are willing to pay though
