I think this is the best value pick this draft for the Flyers.

He said himself he's going to spend the next two years in the SHL which is fine by me.

Per Holmgren

Quote:
Q: Were you surprised to see Robert Hagg sitting there in the second round?

"He's one of the guys we had in a group in the second round that we were kind of hoping would fall to us. Obviously when he was there, we were happy to snap him up."

Q: What stands out about him?

"I think Robert, obviously he has good size, he moves good, and he's pretty good with the puck. We liked his overall game."

LOVE this pick. Glad he fell into Holmgren's lap in the second round. Wasn't Forsberg trying to sell the Flyers on Hagg earlier in the season?

His biggest issue is his tendency to turn from just exceptionally calmed and poised, to straight up lackadaisical. You will sometimes see him handle the puck to causally in his own zone resulting in a turnover, or getting beaten on the outside by simply underestimating the speed of opposing forwards coming down his wing.

Other then that though, he's got pretty much everything you're looking for in a modern two-way defenseman. In terms of style, he reminds me an awful lot of fellow countryman Adam Larsson.

People will probably point out that he struggled defensively in some of his SHL games last season, but I wouldn't worry to much about that since the (now replaced) coaching staff didn't really seem to teach proper defensive positioning to any of their players.

It was Mikael Renberg. Forsberg owns Modo the team Hagg plays for though.

Hagg really could become a #1. Morin if he develops some offense could really be something special too.

I had Hagg going around 25th overall, so I was surprised he fell, but glad. Makes up for reaching on Morin (I figured 18-21) I suppose.

He stated in his interview that he has 2 more years in Sweden. I don't think the team will force him into the AHL

He said that he would play at least one more year in Sweden, where he'll be playing against the big boys.

2 years in Sweden then bring him into the NHL sounds good.

Actually, he said two at first, then said one or two. He also mentioned coming over to play in the AHL. Wouldn't surprise me if he plays one more year in Sweden, then comes over to play for the Phantoms.

That defense is TALL!

The average height is 6' 2" (Gus and Ghost really drop the average).

We had a Dman like that (cough cough Matt Carle)....he wasn't very well-liked by some

Ok we'll one or two then. Still agrees with me saying he won't play in the AHL this season.

If you watch the U20 clip posted above from the WJC, he kind of reminds me of Joni Pitkanen when he was drafted. Fluid, great passer, a bit casual under pressure. But he also hammered a couple guys heads into the boards and has a great shot.
