Ana-Fla (Ryan+ for Jones)

To Fla:
Bobby Ryan
26th Overall

To Ana:
2nd Overall

Colorado wants MacKinnon. Anaheim needs Jones to boost their defensive depth. Florida gets a 30 goal forward immediately, and a pretty decent pick. Everyone wins.

Thoughts?

Florida won't give up a potential franchise defenseman for a 30 goal scorer and Shea Theodore.

If anything I would only consider a 1:1 swap.

Anaheim won't give up a 1st line winger, let alone add, for someone whose never played a game in the NHL

But Florida is not interested in Jones, they want offense. Therefore, this trade would make sense. Rather than have an offensive prospect that could take years to develop and might be a dud, they get a young proven player that will immediately boost them offensively.

A young proven player who can walk at the end of next season. Florida passes.

Everyone wins (which is debatable) until Ryan bolts from Florida when his contract ends.

I would do this in a heart beat.

The thought of Fowler-Jones on the same pairing is enough to make this trade.

yeah, about that

why not draft drouin or barkov then? both got potential to score more. drouin is almost a lock to be PPG at some point in his career

and no, florida needs both defense and offense.

Wow...if that's all it takes I'd do Lupul + the 21st pick for the second pick.

Lupul > Ryan
21st > 26th

Potential sure, but prospects are high risks until they prove themselves in the NHL.

Lupul > Ryan
21st > 26th

Lupul is streaky and is injury prone. And he has never scored 30, Ryan has 4 times. Ryan>>>Lupul.

if its just "high risks", why do anaheim want them? you cant just say that to work for yourself

yeah, a 30 goal scorer for 1 year when they aren't contenders anyway... giving up a potential franchise winger/d-man/center, super good deal, hooray!

ryan will leave florida the second he comes a UFA so its a rental for an evnetual franchise player, now, if he was signed for 5-6 years at a decent price, i'd consider it

Lupul > Ryan
21st > 26th
Lupul is 3 years older, has never scored 30 and has HUGE injury risks. Ryan's value is much higher.

Incredible. You called the 26th overall pick exactly. Well done.

I'd give a slight edge to Ryan but its close.. Lupul has had better numbers and worse line mates... And Gota wonder why Ryan is always being talked about up for trade...

Wow. That was a good call. None of us on the Ducks board had us taking Theodore.

I don't think it is that close but Lupul is definitely undervalued because of his injuries.

Ryan has actually spent a lot of time away from Getzlaf and Perry. Lupul has better numbers in 1 year and is older and hasn't played a full season or even 90% of a season since '09. Lupul also gets PP time that Ryan doesn't with Getzlaf, Perry, and Selanne taking the lions share. At ES Ryan actually produces at a rate comparable to the Twins and Better than Selanne. Ryan gets top PP time and you see his point totals jump.

As for the trade rumors, that's simple. Ryan is really the only player of real value to make any real upgrades via trades. Thus he gets mentioned. I was really upset when we moved Lupul though. Under rated player. Thought he was starting to gel with Getzlaf and Perry, Then Carlyle told Murray that Lupul would never be a LW in the NHL and he became a cash dump... So sad.

Just to nitpick, but Ryan has 2 years left on his deal, not a rental.

Maybe he secretly works for the Ducks and knew they would be picking Theodore, so he just casually threw it out there to wow us all.

As appealing as Bobby Ryan may be, I don't think we have the right assets to acquire him, and if we are going to send some prospects for immediate help, it would be for help at center and not the wings.

I think the Preds are pretty excited that a guy like Seth Jones fell to them (although they would have been pretty stoked on Barkov or Drouin too, I should think) and they'd be much more likely to consider shipping out a Blum/Josi/Klein in a year after the picture looks more clear. For now, as good as Bobby Ryan is, you have to see what you've got in Jones before you consider a trade.
