Braydon Coburn has ended up ALARMINGLY bad at this, I mean, Grossmann is better than him.
Coburn has never had a good shot. He never really got it to the net in a manor that could be deflected or resulted in a rebound but he didn't used to be a liability on the point. however, since taking that puck to the face 2 years ago he seems really tentative in the offensive zone.

I think it's hilarious how divided we are on finding a comparable. Doesn't that suggest something in and of itself?

This kid's got a pretty damn unique set of skills. He's huge, nasty, and can skate. There's a lot of big and nasty defenders, and there's a few big defenders that can skate. But how many of those can put all those traits together?

Ironically, I can only think of one. But he only shows up every ten games and mainly in the playoffs. Can you guess?

If his offensive game comes along, we get a nasty and defensively responsible Tyler Myers. Probably best case scenario. If he doesn't progress offensively but can keep honing his strengths, we may have beast-mode Coburn on our hands. But then there's always the chance we just end up with regular Coburn complete with consistency issues and all. And we can't rule out the possibility of him fizzling and becoming Keaton Ellerby.

But I'll take the chance. If he can be what we always wished we had in Coburn, I'll be very, very happy.

His team got schooled by my underdog Olympiques, but I must admit, he was the Océanic's best player of the series.
To top it off, he's one nasty mother******.

Pronger took years to have an impact. Morin will likely as well. Arguing about today's needs is so idiotic. Needs will change.

Well with the hopes of ghost and development of Gus. Doesn't that help with our PMD issue people are up in arms about with this pick. Also, hagg who seems to be able to do it all.

I like big defensmen who have Chris Pronger mentoring them.

Again, Chris Pronger won't be on the ice with him. He won't be mentoring him. And it sounds like Pronger's role in the organization is more related to scouting.

Definitely warming up to the pick due to Hagg hopefully being ready soon and letting Morin keep developing.

I'm surprised these guys bother to practice since the only place they actually learn anything is in a game.

I guess Pronger didn't help Schenn at all.

It's not about being on the ice but the tips and watching film with Pronger can only help.

Hagg is likely spending two more years with MODO.

Morin is definitely another two years in the Q.

This summer:
Laughton / Cousins

Next summer:
Gostisbehere

The summer after:
Morin / Hagg

I think that's the breakdown of when our various top prospects join the organization in some capacity whether its AHL or NHL.

When is he going to learn from Pronger though if he's not really expected to be with the team for 4 years? I'm sure he'll get pointers from him for the few weeks a year they're together at camp, but other than that? You can't really teach someone over the phone or through an email.

He's not practicing him with him either.

Sitting in an office and telling a guy that you can hold a stick with only one hand isn't exactly ingenuity.

How many people would argue this worked with Matt Carle and Braydon Coburn?

So can watching film and tips from the actual coaching staff. Of which Pronger is not currently a part of. There's only so much that goes on at prospect development camp.

I think people immediately assuming that he has no chance to be a good offensive contributor are really overreacting.

He may not be a slick stick handling guy like karlsson, but I see no reason he can't develop the ability to add offense in a less dazzling way

The most important quality of an NHL defenseman is decision making. It's what makes Duncan Keith significantly better than Coburn, even though Coburn has much better measurables. No amount film time or work with Pronger is really going to change this kids ability to make smart decisions at the speed required in the NHL.

I'll take Jan Hejda. Underrated player.

Great pick! Love this pick because his idol- Chris Pronger will be working with him, I think Pronger made this pick for the Flyers.

You've learned this in the 12 or so hours since the Flyers made the pick?

Since when did Pronger become a coach and scout? All this talk about him helping Luke and Picking Morin. Pronger has been sitting in a dark room in his basement most of the time, with a few appearance at the arena.

how do you know how he'll be able to make decisions at the NHL level when he's not yet 18 and not yet had a chance to make a decision in the NHL?

Just an FYI but Pronger himself said he didn't know much about him other than watching some video on him

I like the Morin pick. I really do. But knowing now that Hagg was there in the second, I would have been 100% fine going with Shinkaruk or Mantha (or Nichusken if he were available). Had they picked a forward at 11, at the time I would have been disappointed, but once Hagg was chosen I would have been happy with how things went down. I still think Morin and Hagg are solid picks, but knowing that Hagg was there I think Shinkaruk would have been a solid pick as well.

Crosby vs Morin

Can you imagine Crosby going into the corner with the puck on Morin's side of the ice.
Crosby looks up way way up and says oh ******. Morin bearing down on him. Saying to Crosby with that grin on his face, in his best Moose DuPont accent, "give me the puck or die".......cool......

Given that Pronger has barely skated since getting hurt, I sense that he isn't running any practices any time soon.
