2013 Draft- 7th Round-Wade Murphy-RW

I have no clue what the BCHL is, but the dude had 91 points (36/55) in 60 games. Beer league?

British Columbia hockey league.. Not all that high of a league here in Canada.. Though Brett hull came from the bchl .. As did Gomez and I'm pretty sure price did as well .. Other then that I can't think of anyone to come out of it to make an impact

The BCHL is similar to the USHL here in the States. It's a place players go to play when they wish to maintain their NCAA eligibility that would be lost playing in the major junior system. Very well known league with lots of graduates in the NHL.

I like this pick a lot. Look forward to watching Murphy develop at North Dakota.

Quote:
Had a very solid showing at the BCHL Showcase, leading USHR to rank him as the Showcase's third best forward: "The most college-ready player we saw here...Murphy has good speed, is gritty and can really shoot a puck. Will make an immediate impact in college hockey. Played on Pentictonís National Championship team last season, finishing fourth in league scoring with a 36-55-91 scoring line in 56 games played. Will contend for the league scoring title."

They have some very skilled small players in this league that wouldn't otherwise make it in major junior. Not a knock on D or goalies.

To put things in perspective, Mark...not Mike...Santorelli lead the BCHL in scoring in his draft year.

The BCHL numbers don't impress me because he's much older than most of his competition - Murphy turns 20 in October. I'm more intrigued by the NoDak commitment than anything. They wouldn't sign him up if he wasn't a quality player.

Honestly, he's probably about the average age of those competing in the BCHL. There's a misconception that these junior A leagues are full of 16 year olds, which isn't true at all. Reality is there are few kids that young in the BCHL, AJHL, and USHL. I'd say the majority of players are 18-20 in the BCHL, (I saw the stats on this) so to suggest he's that much older than his competition I think is a little off base. He's put up huge numbers for the last 2 seasons in that league. North Dakota's got some holes to fill in the lineup, so Murphy will have an opportunity to get some nice minutes this season if he does well.

You're thinking of the WHL, and it was the year after his draft year. He wasn't a league leader during his stint with the BCHL.

Jamie Benn and Tyler Bozak both came out of the Grizzlies organization.

Good kid who will be a great player in college hockey. Potential Craig Smith type of player.
