Very interesting stuff in Phoenix. Looks like it's either vote in lots more $$ to keep the Yotes (for at least 5 years-CoG wants longer commitment) by July 2nd, or they're Seattle-bound.

Edit: For the record, my prediction is that they somehow pull this out at the last second and they stay.

A very Edmonton Investors Group type prediction.

You know you're a Preds fan, when you don't want to even want to think about the minuscule possibility for them to re-locate to ATL

Miss NHL in ATL but don't have the emotional capital to get into another team.

As long as A$G are tied to the arena, there is zero chance Atlanta is even remotely thought of.

Latest on Phoenix. Thought this was a good roundup from poster xx:

Quote:
Glendale unanimously rejected latest RSE proposal, countered with their own (which is expected to pass, should it come to a vote). The counter includes an out clause for Glendale and possibly a no-relocation clause as well. RSE has already said this is unacceptable and that they will walk if that's the final offer. They have until 2PM local time Tuesday to accept or the whole thing is finally over.
Glendale wants to vote on something that the potential buyers (nor NHL) won't accept in the first place. It's looking more and more that my prediction of Glendale keeping the Yotes at the last second will fail.

If something cant be framed well by the news station's camera, it gets pointed at the courtroom cam, which...isnt half bad.

They just compromised their fire and police coverage for a hockey team. I love hockey and all, but that's messed up.

I agree with this. It doesn't feel right at all to have that team there now. I never thought the Coyotes should move because of fan support, etc because given what that fanbase has been through its understandable why they would hold back their dollars before things were a bit more certain. But to put pro sports ahead of vital emergency support, that just scares me and makes rooting for the Coyotes in any capacity feel a little bit unethical for me.

Eh, the whole police/fire/schools getting cut angle is too proven a tactic to take at face value, so I'm not going to make any judgment on that without some context. Hope the organization is able to drum the fans out and have some success now, with the issue apparently settled for a few years at least.

Good point. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next half-decade.

It could be true, but I'm just too skeptical of political arguments to know if it holds water or not. For instance, out here in California, they like to scare us with how dramatically school and police budgets had to be cut, but in reality the only reductions were to planned spending increases. I don't doubt that things may be tight for a year or two for the city of Glendale, but with the Super Bowl in 2015, I would hope their budget will be fine long-term, regardless of how successful the Coyotes are. Lack of real estate development and home purchases are probably a bigger worry in the scheme of things.

Tell that to the 19 families that lost their loved ones in the blaze in Yarnell (Glendale is the closest "big community" to that scene - even though it's 1:20 away) I'm sure they'd appreciate it.

As much as I loved the Thrash, I'd never want the city to fit the bill to keep the team. Glendale is just bleeding cash, and has been for years. I know Kansas City is larger, but they have gotten by with a new arena ('99) with no anchor tenant for years just fine. It's going to be real interesting to see where this is in a few years.
