Face it. We are not winning in the near future
...Then why would we bother signing Vinny?

Read needs to be resigned, he is a keeper. I don't know why so many Flyers fans want to get rid of him for draft picks. Coburn just lead our team in minutes, who is going to replace that?

We do need size down the middle and Lecavalier is still serviceable but yeah it has to be at the right price and years and I'm not crazy about shedding salary with Read and Coburn just to accomodate Lecavalier.

Read is what they term a utlility knife player...very valuable to a coach and team. Coburn like you noted plays big minutes..somebody has to fill the void.

Nope. They were given the opportunity to talk to whomever they wanted before the regular UFA's but they still have to wait until the 5th to sign.

He's still a 60ish point forward, and if you put him with Giroux it could work. I wouldn't put him at center.

It depends on the terms of the deal though. I don't think 4 years @ 4 million is realistic when a dude like Streit just got $5.25 per. He's probably going to wind up with a bloated contract, and I don't want any part of that.

If Lecavalier can transition to wing, he'd easily be better than anything on the market.

Though that definitely spells the end of Read.

Are you comfortable with committing to Lecavalier > Read?

Isn't he better suited at center? He won a healthy 54% of his faceoffs last year and god knows the Flyers could do with someone other than Giroux who could win faceoffs.

http://espn.go.com/nhl/team/stats/_/...eoffPercent/ta

I'd rather move Schenn to the wing.

Yeah, vinny is solid in the faceoff circle. Id give him the 2nd line C spot. Assuming no trades are made, I'd like to see

Schenn-Giroux-Voracek
Hartnell-Lecavalier-Simmonds
Gagne-Couturier-Read
Rinaldo-Laughton-Talbot

Is Laughton on the 4th line really the best idea? Wouldn't it be better for his development to send him back to Juniors for another year (does the contract slide again?) or the AHL (if he is eligible)? We could re-sign Hall or get a UFA on a one year deal to hold the place. Laughton on the fourth line likely will not make any more of an impact as an Adam Hall type player, simply because he'll only be getting like what ten or eleven minutes tops per night.

Laughton's NHL ready. There's nothing wrong with starting out on the 4th line, and there will surely be injuries to the top 9 that give him the chance to move up.

Only want Vinny if at 4 yrs 4 mill. If we sign him though, prepare for Couts or Laughton going for a D man. Doubt Read stays as well.

I don't think Gagne is the answer. I want someone bigger to open up space for Couturier.

Let's say we turn that into this:

2013-14
Schenn (0.90) - Giroux (3.75) - Voracek (4.25)
Hartnell (4.75) - Lecavalier (5.00~) - Simmonds (3.98)
Clarkson (3.25~) - Couturier (0.93) - Read (0.90)
Rinaldo (0.75) - Laughton (0.93) - Talbot (1.75)
Rosehill (0.68)

Timonen (6.00) - Schenn (3.60)
Streit (5.25) - Coburn (4.50)
Gustafsson (1.30~) - Grossmann (3.50)
Gervais (0.83) - Bourdon (0.61)

Mason (1.50)
Emery (1.50)

Bartulis BUYOUT (0.10)
Briere BUYOUT (0.00)
Bryzgalov BUYOUT (0.00)
Bonus Cushion Penalty (0.18)

Pronger LTIR (+/- 4.92)

SALARY CAP: 64.30
CAP CHARGE: 60.41
TOTAL SPACE: 03.89

All I did was get rid of Meszaros while adding Lecavalier, Clarkson, and Emery.

Or you could move Laughton up to Couturier's wing to replace Clarkson and sign a 4th line center.

That leaves...

2014-15
Schenn (3.00~) - Giroux (7.50~) - Voracek (4.25)
Hartnell (4.75) - Lecavalier (5.00) - Simmonds (3.98)
Clarkson (3.25) - Couturier (2.50~) - xxxxxxxxxx
Rinaldo (0.75) - Laughton (0.93) - Talbot (1.75)
Rosehill (0.68)

Gustafsson (1.30) - Schenn (3.60)
Streit (5.25) - Coburn (4.50)
xxxxxxxxxx - Grossmann (3.50)
xxxxxxxxxx

xxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxx

Briere BUYOUT (0.00)
Bryzgalov BUYOUT (0.00)

Pronger LTIR (+/- 4.92)

SALARY CAP: 64.30+
CAP CHARGE: 56.49
TOTAL SPACE: 07.81+

You now have 7.81m+ to sign two goalies, a 3rd line winger (unless Laughton moves up), and 2 defenseman (hopefully one is pretty good/potential #1).

If signing Lecavalier prohibits the Flyers from signing Read to an extension, than it sounds like a pretty bad mistake.

Is Hedberg a cheap option for back up, or too old ?

He might be too old at this point, he looked solid when I watched him last year, though.

-Gustafsson will be in the lineup.
-Lecavalier will be more expensive than that.
-I would love Stalberg at that price, but I trust he's more expensive than that.
-Couturier won't be traded for Ryan considering he'd be better used to get a young, #1 defenseman.
-If we do sign Lecavalier, Laughton + Coburn + 1st 2014 + Cousins or something similar could be dangled for someone like Weber.

I don't want to move Couts.

Also Ference is coming off a 2.25(per year) million deal with Boston. He will make 3+ on the open market.

You suck Shafer. I just built a Cup raising team and you burned it down in 3 seconds.

Come on that's a nice lineup in my fantasy cap hockey world!!
