Stan made it sound like that was almost a good thing, for the Hawks at least. He said it kept him under the radar.

Tell that to Steve Montador.

One concussion doesn't automatically end your career or make you damaged goods. They effect everyone differently. There are plenty of examples on both sides of the fence.

This has what to do with hockey, again?

So you think keeping Toews is a bad thing?

The issue is the concept of "consensus BPA" of selecting defenseman Carl Dahlstrom, who already has a medical red flag with a concussion, when defenseman Madison Bowey was still on the board.

Concussions should be seriously taken into consideration when drafting future NHL players.

I bet close to 33% NHLers probably suffered a concussion before joining the NHL. Doesn't mean squat.

Future medical evaluations need to be scrutinized with greater caution.

Still doesn't answer how Toews getting in an MVA has anything to do with hockey or the topic at hand. Odd and irrelevant tangent.

Sure. And if the Hawks brass thought he'd have issues moving forward they probably wouldn't have used a second round pick on him.

The Hawks scouts had Dahlstrom as the BPA. It's probably why they took him.

If Bowman wants Dahlstrom over Bowey I trust him in his choice

Ugh, Larmer. 50%+ of NHLers have suffered a concussion before they join the NHL.

As for this thread, just going to put this here:

Guys who the Hawks like their long-term potential, but may not have been picked as high (or at all) in previous years do to the lack of time to evaluate their development.

Good point Hoss, it really does make a difference. 3 years is barely enough to know what you have on your hands, especially Dmen.

It was actually 2 years before. And yes, I too think it made a huge difference in this draft for Chicago, and likely other teams as well. Having up to 4 years to decide whether to sign a guy or not is a significant increase from 2, in terms of being able to track a players development and figure out where they fit into your system and where/when you could see them on your team.

thats why Bowman has taken that many US players and Swedes. We have enough prospects already that are close to the NHL or 1-2 years away. Most of this years picks are 2+ years away FOR SURE.
