Simon Gagne- Update 10/15/14: Signs 1 year deal with the Bruins.

Quote:
It sounds as if the Flyers will bring back popular left winger Simon Gagne only if the price is right.

Gagne, 33, who had five goals and 11 points in 27 games with the Flyers last year, can become an unrestricted free agent on Friday.

“We’ve had a couple of conversations with his agent, and we will continue to talk,” GM Paul Holmgren said on Monday. “We have interest in bringing him back, but limited cap space.”

The cap has dropped to $64.3 million this season, but teams can go over it by 10 percent in the summer. The Flyers have about $4.2 million of cap room, but it climbs to nearly $11 million with the added 10 percent cushion. Once the season starts, they will put Chris Pronger on the long-term injured list and get $4.9 million of cap relief.

I hope not. Laughton being rushed, Talbot and Schenn out of position, Couturier being pressured to put up points while covering for two forwards who are not advanced defensively and can be prone to lapses.

lol Schenn is going to be a winger here so get used to it. Laughton is ready, whether it is for 3rd or 4th line minutes remains to be seen. And Couturier can be counted on for 2nd line C duties, just give him more than 3 ****ing games like Lavy did last year..

Rushed as in 3rd line center or NHL? He has a very very SMALL chance of going back to the OHL. Even Homer said he thinks he's too good for it so he is close to a sure thing to play in the NHL next season.

Laughton looked very good in his stint last year. Really can't see him going back

If Schenn is a winger, he needs to play with Voracek. Thats who he was best with. And I would pair couts with them. With that being said. I am not ready to just stick Laughton up on the 3rd line for an 82 game season. That would scare me.

I agree, but we generally know how these things go. I'll consider it a blessing if it's not 3 years.

I would love to bring Gagne back. He isn't the player he once was, but he's still got good skating, a great shot, and is a smart player.

$2-2.5M, 2 years would be fine with me.

"Gagne" "limited cap space"

Yeah, this sounds familiar.

I would honestly rather cut ties and move on. You have some young players like McGinn or Akeson who could play adequately on the 3rd line IMO and cost nothing.

I don't know what people expect for Gagne, he can't play the PP or PK. Replacing him with anybody on an ELC is a better move. McGinn would obviously be a better choice than Akeson, but honestly it wouldn't matter to me.

I agree with everything you said concerning Gagne. I just don't really see Akeson as much of player. I prefer McGinn over him.

I'm calling $3M/per two years. Don't think he should, but I see it.

Serious question, what did Gagne really do this year that was spectatular? I just don't see how you can justify giving him any more than $2M and a year. The only thing he can really do well now days is skate.

I'm not expecting much out of next year so maybe that's why I'm more willing to give the younger guy a shot.
