I would absolutely give him a 2-way deal. Give him another half year in the AHL to see what he has. He stayed healthy last year, now see what he can do.

So Wang finally does the right thing. And getting rid of the cap hit with the compliance.

The black cloud hanging over the franchise is finally gone.

Those threads must look pretty funny now where fans were arguing over whether the Islanders could afford a DiPietro buyout even though Islanders fans said they could

Good for the Islanders though. He could have became a huge liability to the team if they're ever going to be spending close to the cap.

Lol at people saying congrats islanders, they signed a goaltender to a terrible contract that they now have to pay him to not play. This will be the only money wang will spend this summer, snow won't be able to sign any UFAs

Does this really say what I think it does...that the team is now looking at the cap ceiling instead of the cap floor?

The Isles will never be a cap ceiling team. They'll probably be in the mid range even after they move to Brooklyn.

What news!!! You people have no idea what this means to Isles fans.

No, what this shows is that Wang is willing to spend $1.5M that won't count against the cap. There is still room for free agents before the Isles hit the floor.

After years of gaming the floor, a willingness to spend more than the cap is worth celebrating.

Mason and DiPietro would be one hell of a tandem to have.

You realize the Islanders were paying him even more not to play before the buyout, right?

Yeah, Snow won't be able to sign any UFA's.. they only have over 30 mill in cap space, a new home on the way, a Superstar in John Tavares, and a great prospect pool developing..

As one of the ads on the jumbotron at Nassau Coliseum in between periods says.. "THINK BEFORE YOU POST".

Feel bad for Dipietro, he just can't stay healthy at all, I imagine his mental state can't be too well either after all these years of injuries and criticism. It's nice they'll be free from that contract though.

What an awesome retirement plan, I wish I could get $1.5 for the next 16 years. I need to go to work tomorrow and yell at my HR department!

I would retire today.

It was a terrible contract but this deal was signed almost a decade ago.

Buying him out was a no-brainer for the Islanders; they'll get rid of his cap hit and in the long run they will save 12 million.
