Are they going to be paying for yashin and dipietro now? Or did yashin finally run out?

Find it hilarious that Cap Geek will have to devote a part of the Islanders page to Dipietro for the next 16 years. To put it into perspective many of the kids drafted yesterday will have retired or will be close to retiring before the Islanders are done paying Rick DiPietro.

Yet the Mets will still be paying Bobby Bonilla after that.

I wonder where he'll sign next?

It would be funny if he ends up as backup to Luongo in Vancouver! (I know this is unlikely...)

Maybe he could sign somewhere in Europe! Is he even good enough for the KHL?

Also, liberation day for a young man who was dealt an horrible hand. Maybe he can start at the bottom of the ladder, both money and prestige-wise, and build himself back up.

Why would Capgeek keep him on there when he doesn't count against the cap?

If it weren't for the flyers already having a terrible rep with goalies, I wouldn't mind him being signed on a two way deal, but its best to avoid another scheisse schau.

I'm not an Islanders fan but this post is pretty dumb. The Islanders are not the only team that offered/signed a contract to a player that didn't work out.

Just about every "big ticket" free agent in the last 5 years that was thrown huge money and long term contracts have left their fan base asking "really?" within a couple of years. Especially when Jacobs and company fought so hard to bring the cap down next year.

$1.5, even for 16 years, isn't that big of a pill to swallow and a retirement contract I would love to have.

Wow for 16 years he'll be getting paid 1.5 million, he can just sit on the couch and laugh at the Isles I guess.

Because they do. It's listed as a buyout for $0.

Congrats Islanders and their fans. Is there any more Milbury crap that still needs to be shed from the team, or is this finally it?

Guy bled orange and blue. Unfortunately his body could no longer handle the position he plays.

I'm sure he'll be in the front office sooner or later.

I can't believe the Isles actually stood up and did what was best for the team. Congrats Isles fans.

Drafted in 1997 and still playing in the NHL (out of 246 players) : Marleau, Thornton, Jokinen, Hossa, Hannan, Cooke, Brewer, Cleary, Morrow, Ference, Campbell, Luongo, Chimera, Corvo, Tallinder, Shawn Thornton and Clemmensen.

By the way, 16 years ago, Gretzky was still playing and the Czech hadn't won gold in Nagano yet.

The New York Islanders are a real hockey team with the goal of winning.

It's been so long since we felt this way. Let us enjoy it.
