Newbury fights a bit. He's not a goon. He's not big either--unless 5'11 is someone's idea of big. He's a hard nosed player. He does take some dumb penalties at times. He's a very good AHL forward who has never stuck but he's a good guy to have on your AHL team. He'll be at the top or very close in scoring on your AHL team. He'll help your rookies and young guys adjust to the league. He's a decent call up in an emergency.

Newbury is an ok 4th liner in a pinch, nothing special about this deal for either side.

pretty much. rangers only have 5 d under contract that would see time in hartford, 3 of whom are rookies. needed a veteran presence to provide some cover, also frees up a spot on a scoring line for a forward. good deal for both sides

I've never understood why Syvret has never been able to become a 3rd pairing regular. Hard to find a 3rd pairing guy with that much puck skill.

Flyers are so bored, they're trading with themselves

Neither of these players will see time on their NHL squads unless both are decimated by injury

I will always remember Kris Newbery for getting knocked out by Ronald Petrovicky.

I always leave these two off the list of transactions when they go through their annual trade.

Exactly, the Flyers have lots of AHL D so they don't really need Syvret this year.
