Skate, two way play and he still can make offensive plays. Thank of it this way, if we got Gagne, we won't get Vinny.

Gagnes last 72 games (2011-2013) - 12 G, 21 A

What leads anybody to think hes worth 2-3 mil for the next 2-3 years?

I think adding Gagne at a reasonable price would give this team flexibility going into the trade deadline or sooner if they also sign Vinny.

Talbot could be moved especially if guys like McGinn are pushing in the A. Gagne could handle Max's PK especially since he would get limited PP.

Read - Giroux - Simmonds
Hartnell- Schenn - Voracek
Gagne - Coots- McGinn
Rosewood - Laughton - Rinaldo

or

Schenn - Giroux - Voracek
Gagne - Vinny - Simmonds
Hartnell - Coots - Read
McGinn - Laughton - Rinaldo

I like that second lineup. Good speed, good size and two good defensive players on each of the top 9. Laughton-McGinn- Rinaldo would really stir the pot when they get on the ice.

I don't know what Talbot gets you but maybe you can package him with a Pick for dman if they have injuries on the d.

Gagne can match up very well against the other teams top line with Couturier. He has the speed, the two way play and from the sounds of things he would be willing to take a discount to stay on the Flyers. He would be a great leader to have around for the young guys as well.

I find Talbot more valuable to this team than Gagne. Talbot's also a way better PKer at this point than Gagne.

Gagne sealed his fate to me when he was put on a line with Giroux and Voracek, both of them were setting Gagne up with prime scoring chances and he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with his shot. I specifically remember the Carolina game he owed Giroux about 5 assists in that game.

What makes anybody here think we're going to grab Vinny Lecav? I very much doubt we will.

33 points through 72 games, a solid two-way game, and straight up professionalism goes for what on the market again?

You don't play Gagne on the first-line, then. You put him on the third or fourth where his misses don't hurt as much.

He's wasn't really impressive even when on the bottom lines. My point was being that he couldn't even look good playing next to those guys.

There's better options out there than Gagne. He would be my last resort as far as veterans go.

For the cap hit McGinn delivers big hits, great hands and hockey sense and presence. I was really impressed with him. He got a couple bad hits to the head, then broke is orbital bone or something in a fight.

I like Gagne, but to save $1M to use elsewhere, on a team that needs to get better, McGinn fits. He played well with Giroux and Schenn during his time, as did Gagne.

Not me. For that money, sign Mason Raymond or Stalberg.

Offer Gagne one year at $1.5M.

to be fair he was coming off a series of pretty serious injuries....

he was our 3rd best forward the last 2-3 weeks of the season imo

he couldnt buy a goal, no denying that, but he was skating better than he has since like 08

id give him 2-2.5 ...guy who can play on any line, can still play pp and pk...obviously fits in well with the team

Personally, I don't want him. He would be taking minutes away from Schenn (or Couts if Schenn is moved to wing) at 2nd line center. Signing him is a win now move which this franchise is not ready for.

I disagree completely. You put him on a line with players who can't set him up anywhere near as well as G and Jake you expect him to produce? He did miserable even when in the PERFECT situation. And most people on here on putting Coots as our 2C, you really want Gagne in your top 6? I still think your better using somebody on an ELC like McGinn

Both Coots and Talbot were horrible offensively to start last season. They both started putting up some points when Gagne was put on their line. I am not saying he is Adam Oates but they guy is a smooth skater, patient with the puck and always in the right place positionally. You hardly ever see an odd man rush when he is on the ice which says a lot for this team.

How about we resign Rusty? If you want somebody who is responsible defensively? The only reason people want Gagne, is because his name is Gagne. You delete the name and just look at the stats, it makes almost zero sense to pay him for 2-3 years of clearly declining play.

Agree 100%... Carter and Richards blossomed in year 3... give Schenn/Coots a shot and see what happens.

He won't be taking any minutes from Schenn or Couturier

In most peoples eyes he would since Schenn will most likely be on the wing in that situation

I don't think anyone here expects him to produce like a top 6 forward. I doubt he'll get consistent minutes on a top 6 line. He's the perfect 3rd liner IMO. He'll get a goal here and there, and he can play very good defense. And he'll add a veteran presence to a very young team.

I am OK with him as a cheap fall-back option, which is what the team seems to be thinking as well. Brunner or Raymond are preferable in terms of age, but you never know what will happen in free agency.

That's exactly the point I am trying to make. If all your looking for is a goal here and a goal there McGinn is a better option then paying Gagne for the next 2-3 years at a couple mil. And on top of that, I think McGinn is more likely to take the body and tally points more often then Gagne on the 3rd.
