No. Way.

That's too much.

I'd be looking for 2-2.5

EDIT: Sorry read that wrong.

I think he means $4M total over 2 years, 2 years is too many though.

What did they sign Rusty for last year? $1.75 M? I would offer the same to Gagne.

Doesn't matter, I don't want Gagne. Why does Philadelphia as a city love the athletes that we trade away, then bring back hoping to recapture their glory from YEARS ago? It blows my mind, at a point you need to MOVE ON.

If he can be an effective veteran 3rd line winger for peanuts, what's the problem?

like i said, imo he was our 3rd best forward at the end of the year, so disagree with that 100%

...and if you really want to point fingers, NO ONE on our team outside of jake could score last year....it was just one of those years where our team just couldnt seem to buy a goal...gagne wasnt alone

also, dont forget, gagne has barely played in the past few years

guys like that dont just forget how to score goals...im not saying he will be a top 6 guy, or a 30 goal scorer or anything, but i am willing to bet that he wont spend the rest of his career as snake bitten as he was at the end of last year

he can play on the 1st 2nd 3rd or 4th line...not a ton of guys that you can say that about....he can be an offensive guy, or a checking line guy..he still has value to a team is my point

Gagne is the perfect third line forward for this team. Idk why people would be upset to get him and even at a discounted price. If you want to continue matching up Couturier's line with Malkin's you need to have good defensive wings with him. Gagne is fast and plays good defense. And like someone said above, you rarely see an odd man rush going against him. Signing him will do wonders for Couturier's game long term.

That is what I want the lines to look like. **** Lecavalier...
Don't rush Laughton.
Talbot is a mediocre center and horrible at taking faceoffs. He should play wing unless someon else gets injured.

Gagne as a third line winger on a cheap 1 year deal is what I would prefer.

I think we all know gags WANTS to play here. he never sold his home in the area and he has said more than once that he'd love to continue to be in the organization even after he retires. I think he'd sign a 2 year 2(2.5) here just because this is where he made his and his families home.

He's still got the speed, plays well in his own end, strengthens a weak veteran presence, and can produce offensively, as well as going on record saying he's not looking for money at this point in his career... Am I missing the negative for someone who will play on this team's THIRD LINE?

Gagne is still very good, he's far from being what he once was, but he's still definitely worth a shot at around 2M-2.5M.

You obviously haven't read a single word anyone has wrote about Gagne. Everyone wants him back to play on the 3rd line at a reduced salary. If people wanted him to "recapture his glory" people would be penciling him in on the top line at any price.

Everyone here knows he's not the Gagne of old, but he's still a serviceable veteran. I'd much rather have him playing on the 3rd line than McGinn or Akeson

The team needs a few vets. Gagne is a good fit. Contract shouldn't hamper the team and he's a locker room guy. Still decent 2-way and hockey IQ. Not that he would be counted on for goals, but he's still able to be a bit of a threat there when scoring chances arrive-- he knows how to bury it.

If he is brought back I think Gagne or any aging veteran needs to be managed better.

Flyers should take a look at Greg Popovich in the NBA and how he handled an old roster with giving them nights off especially in back to backs.

Gagne or Jagr (who they can't afford what he wants) should be handled that way so they can still be effective come playoff time.

For once cap isn't a massive issue, by which I mean we can afford to try and ice 3 decent forward lines. The D looks better than last year already baring injuries (though not in the long term - might have been partially addressed in the draft, time will tell).

Gagne on a reasonable deal makes pefect sense to me to play 3rd line. Gagne - Couturier - Read is a pretty good line, speed, defense and a few points too. Saying get someone from UFA seems counter-productive, you might save what? 500k? Maybe 750k? And for a player no better (else they'll be wanted by more teams) and in Gagne you have a guy who wants to be here, is respected around the club, is a veteran guy who has won the cup now. Seems like a great fit to me.

2 years at about $2 - $2.5 cap hit would be OK. Still leaves you with more than $7.5 in cap space for a top 6 winger and keeper. I think that should be more than enough if you're looking at free agency and what's available in it.

Signe Gagne to a small deal is fine. No one expects him to light up the stat sheet. He'll be a decent complimentary player who can chip in a good performance from time to time. He had 11 points in 27 games with the Flyers last year. If he puts up that type of pace this year, a sub $2 million deal is more than adequate. Not every player on the team is going to be 19 years old, and just becase a player is over 30 doesn't mean he is dead in the water. Gagne is not going to score 40 goals. But can he put up 40-50 points? Barring an injury, I don't see why not.

I guess it comes down to the money then. Would you spend the money on Gagne when guys like Ryder and Brunner who can play higher up the line is still there.

My point is there are plenty of options besides the same old retreads. It seems to be the Flyer way, bring back players when they are past their prime for what? Hes a 3W at BEST, who can't play the PP or PK. There are plenty of options available... just as an example here are 5 players who are UFA and their stats without names, which would you prefer?

Player 1
47 GP - 9 G, 14 A

Player 2
44 GP - 12 G, 14 A

Player 3
46 GP - 10 G, 12 A

Player 4
38 GP - 5 G, 11 A

Player 5
33 GP - 2 G, 12 A

They are all "veterans" and all have similar contracts.
