Convinced myself it would never happen. Positively giddy.

Don't see any reason to pity Rick - tons of athletes in every professional sport in the world suffer career ending injuries, very few of them get $1.5 million a year afterwards.

So long, Ricky. I won't hate it if you join Isles management, become a goalie coach, color commentator, whatever. As long as you're off the ice, I'm happy.

What? Wang is actually going to spend money? Happy for Isles fans.

Buyouts don't effect the cap. Just more hands in players' share of the pie.

The Islanders had to do this and it's great that they did. I just feel really bad for DP now.

Correct.

Not correct.

The cap is based on total revenue, which the players get 50% of. The buyouts are included in that player 50%--they don't reduce the total revenue or cap.

Fiiiinally. Although I'd be happy if he could still play the game he love somewhere, even if as a backup. He was a talented goalie, once. It'd be nice if he could recapture some of that.

I find it very strange that the islanders would compliance buyout dipietro. Ordinary buyout, so they keep some cap (to cheat the cap floor), I can see. Compliance buyout is completely unexpected.

It may be hard to comprehend, but there might come a time in the future where Wang and his Isles don't struggle to make the cap floor anymore. Especially with the move to Brooklyn.

Compliance buyout = Right decision.

Compliance buyout makes sense for 3 reasons

* Islanders payroll is going to shoot up as rookies slowly start getting paid - should take care of the floor

* Islanders want to move to a new location and keep the ceiling option open

* most importantly - you don't know how much cap you need over the next 16 years. 2 or 4 years- sure use the cap hit to your advantage but 16 years is a long time to commit yourself.

Feel bad for Rick as he is the ultimate competitor. I doubt very much that we will see him in the NHL anytime soon, but you never know. Wish him the best of luck and hope he can deal with this.
That is true, but that is the problem with handing out a 15 year contract. It was ridiculous to hand out that length to a guy like Rick even if he was young and had a lot of promise at that time. However, even if completely healthy- that was a crazy deal to hand out, and the Isles were criticized by everyone at that time and rightfully so. In the end we all know the outcome of that decision today.

I remember when it was announced they signed him to this deal, pretty shocked. I heard he was a great young goalie, but those injuries and his contract just made it absolutely horrible.

Wouldn't it have been better just to place him on IR until 2020-21?

Good for NY to get rid of him. But I can't help to feel bad for him. Such misfortune over his career.

At least this will stop all the horrid trade proposals involving Tavares or the Isles first rounders because people are convinced that Wang would never use a buyout even though he bought out Yashin.

I think this will be good for DP. He gets a chance to start afresh with a new team and re-build his image. All the while, he's guaranteed to not go hungry for the next 16 years at least.

A doctor would .have to declare him medically unable to play.

DiPietro does not want to retire. He would have balked and so would the insurance co.

Why should anyone feel bad for him. He gets to retire at 31 and do something else with his life. No more training camps, no more work outs, no more travel, why would he even want to try and play anymore after what he's been through. Time to move on for both the Islanders and DP.

Constipation is over. What a relief. Party on, Garth!

Now lock up Clutterbuck, Bailey & Hamonic! and sign a goalie + maybe a 1st line RW or Top-4 D.

It's Time for a Beer!
