The Sox have dick beyond Sale. If you move him, you can at least hope that the rebuild will be less than 5 years.

From the Cubs, I'd be willing to throw out one of Castro/Baez, Castillo, Vogelbach plus another decent to good prospect. Would give the Sox a good starting point for their rebuild. Probably could get a better offer elsewhere though.

But he's locked up cheaply for so long. I find it to be way early to make a decision like that. If they aren't in a better position by say 2016, that's when you make the move, IMO.

The way free agency is going, I don't think it is even possible to build a contender largely through free agent signings anymore.

Didn't say anything about free agents, so...?

Meant it as you build the system for a few years, then see where your system is then and if you can compete by 2017-8 with Sale you do it. If not, then you trade him when he's like 27 and still has many years ahead of him.

Sale's trade value is high, but so is his value to the Sox in the future.

It's far too early to be making decisions on trading Sale. You see how it goes after next season and then speculation can start. Not now, not at the transition point into the rebuild.

I don't see the point in holding onto a guy who's going to be 29 when your window opens again. And that's if you do it right.

Well, he's not going anywhere, so it's all a moot point.

ESPN's Bruce Levine is reporting that the Cubs have agreed to a deal in principle to deal Carlos Marmol to the Los Angeles Dodgers but there are still hurdles to be cleared, including the obstacle of Marmol's limited no-trade clause, which includes the Dodgers.

Free-agent forward Mike Dunleavy has verbally committed to sign with the Chicago Bulls later this month, according to sources close to the process.

Sources told ESPN.com that Dunleavy quickly narrowed his long list of suitors to five teams Monday and chose to take the Bulls' two-year offer worth $6 million.

The deal can't be signed until after July 10, when the league's annual moratorium on signings and trades is lifted, but teams and players are allowed to enter into verbal agreements during the freeze.

Sources said Dunleavy also gave strong consideration to the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves after spending the past two seasons in Milwaukee.

Why?

When did 29 become over the hill and too old.

Cuz why hold onto a sure thing ace of the staff when you can go get prospects that the SOX system will surely ruin?

The Cubs made a big international signing today, inking 16-year-old Venezuelan shortstop Gleyber Torres to a $1.7MM deal according to MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez. Torres ranked second among international prospects on the list from Baseball America's Ben Badler, and third on MLB.com's list. The Cubs also signed Dominican righty Jefferson Mejia for $850K today, but still have plenty to spend given their $4,557,200 pool.
