Halischuk once scored 15 goals with the least ice time on the team. Blum once was our #3D. Losing them both for literally nothing is truly unacceptable.
There's a such thing as "small sample size," you know. Blum was the number 3(really more the number 4) for a span of about 20 games. Those 20 games were the only ones in which he looked like an even passable NHL defender. Every other appearance has been a train wreck.

We can't wait forever. He was drafted 6 years ago and he's still not an NHL regular...at some point, you have to cut your losses and invest in other players.

Poile could have dumped them when they first started to decline but by then the return would have been a low pick or another failing prospect, so instead he chose to hang on to them when they began to decline in hopes that they would return to form. It was a good gamble that didn't pay off. You can't go back and retroactively blame poile for not trading a player when they were playing well because at that time nobody thought they would end up being useless. It truly makes about as much sense as blaming poile for not getting anything for JP Dumont
I'm aware they have little value, which is why I want to keep them. They have shown potential, as they have both actually played well at this level, and letting them walk for nothing is a horrible move. Personally, I think they do still hold some value to teams that need depth, but if no one will offer anything, just keep them and see if they can reach that potential.

Trading them is fine. Keeping them is fine. Letting two young players who have had success at the NHL level walk for nothing is, in my mind, a huge mistake. I still think Blum ends up a #3/4D, and Hali a solid 3rd liner.

The issue is that combined, theyll make close to 1.5M. That may not seem like much, but to the Predators...it's the difference between a 3M forward and a 4.5-5M forward. It's also a waste of contract spots. You can't carry guys that can't\won't contribute. You only have 50 spots.

Yet we have room to pay Gill 2mil?

Trade gill for whatever we can get, keep Blum and Halischuk for his money. They both contribute more than him.

I'm pretty sure poile will trade gill if anyone will take him. And if it looks like we are going to need his cap space I suspect poile would buy him out if need be. Poile treats unwanted vets very well. If he isn't going to play here(and he's not) poile will arrange a soft landing. But I wouldn't use that savings on blum and hali if that's going to keep us from signing or trading for someone useful.

Gill wasn't great this season, but he brought more to the team than Blum did, if even just for off-ice stuff.

Is there an update on Blum? Last I heard he's going to become a UFA.

I think we trade him or qualify him. I don't see us just walking away. I also don't see him playing for this team unless he is absolutely a beast at training camp and even then .... I don't see him displacing anyone.

Poile: Will not qualify Halischuk or Blum if no trade comes about today.

Wonder what this means for Bartley. Back to Milwaukee?

We always carry 7 defensemen.

Weber, Josi, Klein, Jones, Ellis, Bartley, Ekholm, looks right to me.

Really sad if we can't get anything for him. Any team that would want him now just has to wait for Friday. Why not retain his rights and look to trade him after the dust settles from Friday. There are bound to be a couple teams that didn't land who they wanted and are in need of a 3rd line d-man.

If you trade for him, he's yours without competition and RFA rights. I still think we will pick up at least a 4th today.

It just blows me away that we could just let Blum and Hali go for nothing and we were able to trade Butler who we picked off waivers....

I hope DP can pull something off today...

There are some teams that would love to have that for 2nd pairing.
