Bertuzzi's was bad but the term was fine and if Selanne and does end up retiring we likely keep him two years. That whole will I/won't I play thing from Teemu and Nieds put us in a difficult situation. It's definitely up there though.
And yeah as much as I love Jiggy we only got 1 and 1/4 years of value out of that contract. Then his Dad got sick and his game suffered and then next season when he was given a shot to win back the starting role he ran into groin injuries.
Some other candidates for the best contract (although nothing beats Teemu's 05-06 contract IMO) are Beauchemin's current deal, Getzlaf for 5 years @ $5.3M & Hiller for 2 years @ $1.3M.
If he stays another year we don't end up paying him to not play for us and having the buyout on the books after the deal expires. He was enigmatic and lazy but still produced 2nd line numbers for us. Not worth $4M per year but the overpayment wasn't on a Fedorov or Giguere type level.
I can't argue with Teemu 05 being the best. Federov's contract was bad but we did get Beauch in the deal with him so that had to be some added value of that contract. So, I'm going to say Jiggy's turned out to be the worst even if it didn't look that bad at the time.
An interesting case could be made for both our top defensive pairs in 2007. While none of the contracts were great value by themselves (except for Beachemin's 500k, but that was prior to being established as an NHL player), as a defense pair they were great value for the minutes and roles played.
