Really wish all of the "experts" on here would tone it down a bit. Highly ingratiating to read all of these fearless predictions on players they know nothing about.
Words cannot express how awesome I think this post is.

Not singling out the OP by any stretch, but this board turns into a giant cesspool of second guessing once these picks are made. The level of need to discuss "my list" versus the attributes of the players actually selected is mind boggling. The lack of respect for those scouting and managing a highly resourced, framework driven scouting staff is to me mind boggling.

If I quit my job and spent my entire life watching hockey I still could not provide the reach and breadth of scope that these professional scouting organizations do, and so still wouldn't have the nerve to criticize the pros.

In what can largely be a crapshoot on draft day I typically look for the club to have some overall sense of direction. This draft should get a favourable review if only for the fact that the team had the foresight to have so many strong picks, they put an emphasis on strength and the forward positions, and they established a potential succession plan for goaltender.

Mission accomplished in my view. The details now are in the development and utilizing of these players strengths, not in the number that CSB or TSN pinned beside their name or what the armchair experts or media think.

There are 30 teams in NHL. You have a 20 man game roster and about 2-3 reserves. So all total you have about 660 players in the NHL. Most 1st rounders make the NHL and some 2nd rounders. After the first two rounds it's all gambling on which of these players can make it to NHL.

Why do people get so upset if Montreal is trying to find some bigger guys that may be able to improve enough to make it to NHL. After 2nd round most of these players have all kinds of issues that need fixing or developing if they are ever to make it to NHL.

As long as Habs can get 2-3 picks a year to develop and become regular NHLers from any round they will be able to improve their team depth and cores. The issue was watching past GMs trade away young talent before they reached their abilities for scraps.

Wholeheartedly agree with you and Grant. And for ****s sake we're talking about a 71st pick not a 7th

It's Sugar Crisp and he will be on a line with the triumphant return of Black Geoffrion.

While I'm surprised at how he went, I'm not surprised he was drafted.

Lost practically all of his sophomore year to an injury and played well this year (all things considered). He plays a pro type game in the sense that he's big and can score in close. Loves to drop the mitts and play a crash and bang style too. Skating needs to improve. Puck carrying ability could also use work too. But the potential for him to develop into a useful NHL player is there.

Coco can't be intimidating....And in Montreal, Coco was Jacques Lemaire. Sugar is more like it though again....not that "fight" related unless you nickname him....

I think that's the Habs new m.o., find a guy who was injured for a full year before the draft (either draft year or year before) and pick him

agreed we do a great job of finding later round players , TT and co. must of liked what they saw

we have a brutal bottom six in terms of role players like Thornton ,Campell ,Shaw , Stoll, Lewis , etc....

why cant this guy one day be a 10-12th energy guy?

dont understand the hate at this pick , how many more talented dudes do you want
we have a boatload in the funnel and many of them wont ever make it anyway , so why not take something we dont have in the funnell

a big strong physical grinding , banger , fighter , intimidating 4th liner

what is wrong with that ???

His offensive instincts should improve from playing with mcdavid.
