I could see it happening. Vinny is not coming here. There are better options elsewhere.

Been told by a 2nd NHL Source that they think Vinny is going to Dallas Stars. Spoke to Stars and they still haven't heard anything.

I really don't get the attraction to Dallas, he's 33 and that team is not going to winning squat with that defense and bottom 6. Not to mention by the time they're ready to compete half the people they have signed will be in a retirement home.
Lol..If he really doesnt want Montreal, best place to HIDE is Dallas,we dont play Dallas very often.....

Best place to not have to face Montreal fans..lol

If Bergevin can clearly convince Lecavalier that Mtl can be a contender with him in the fold, then the Habs chances improve in terms of acquiring him.

Right now I say Detroit gets him.
Philly? You mean the team that finished 20th in the league?
Detroit? You mean the team that squeeked into the playoffs and has many of their better players in their mid-30's?

I am not trying to say that Montreal is head and shoulders above either team, and they could be below at this point, but to call them contenders and Montreal not, seems to be highly subjective. I see all three teams as playoff teams but not quite at contender level right now.

From Forbes in 2012:

"Off the ice, the NHL also lags behind when it comes to marketing dollars. A few NHL stars like Crosby, Ovechkin and the Chicago Blackhawks’ Jonathan Toews earn more than $1 million a year from sponsors, but they are the exception."

"Evgeni Malkin ranks No. 3 with earnings of $9.1 million, including $400,000 off the ice."

http://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbade...-paid-players/

So how exactly is Lecavalier going to make millions more in endorsements by playing in Montreal? If anything, he can probably make more in a bigger market. The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington area has a population of about 6.6M, compared to about 3.8M for greater Montreal area. Even though Montrealers may be more passionate about their team, it still translates to a bigger TV market in Dallas, where they average a 1.0 rating (about 1.1M viewers) compared to an average of about 900k viewers on RDS.
Didn`t he just get 32 million or being bought out.

For what it's worth Texas is the one state besides Florida with both an NHL team and no state income tax.

Something tells me I was wrong and Montreal might just land Lecavalier! All signs are pointing to it.

1) He saiod NO to Calgary as per David Pagnotta
2) He wants to stay in the East
3) Philadelphia and Boston do not have the cap space
4) Montreal has very high interest on signing him
5) He is seriousley considering Montreal

What the ****?
I don't see how Boston can afford another 5M$ center.

Krejci 5.25M$, Seguin 5.750M$, Bergeron will get around 6m+... then they have Rask around 6.5M$, Chara 6.9M$, Lucic 6M$, Marchard 4.5M$, Peverly 3.25M$, Kelly 3M$, Boychuk 3.3M$, Seindeberg 3.25M$. How can they fit another 5M$ in there.

Yes Detroit. You know, that team who took the eventual cup champs to a game 7 ot and have one of the best coaching/gm/front office setups in the league.

Yes Philly. You know, that team who had 5/6 of their starting d-corps go down with major injury throughout the season, and when they remotely resembled themselves beat down on teams like the Habs. Goaltender away from being a top 4 or 5team in the East perenially.

I'm pretty damn sure he's not going to Dallas. Hockey is completely irrelevant there. The team showed nothing to look forward to in the last year. And it's far from the East Coast, where he and his wife are used to live.

Lecavalier wouldn't lie to an NHL GM about his chosen destination.

I'm still pretty damn sure he ends up somewhere in the East. Still believe we have the biggest chance of landing him... which could be a good or a bad thing. I'd be happy, but ultimately, I would wonder what's next...

The decision for Lecavalier begins with Montreal. He has to decide whether he wants to go home and deal with both the perks and detriments of playing in his native town. And if he goes home, it’s not going to be for the same kind of money or term other clubs would have offered. If he’s a Hab, it’s more because he really, really wants to be one. Montreal definitely has interest in signing him, but it’s going to have to be on a reasonable deal that fits within its cap and payroll structure.

But no one should fault Lecavalier if he decides to avoid that situation; that’s his choice as a UFA.

I still think Dallas is a solid possibility for Lecavalier if he wants to remain in a quiet, non-traditional hockey place, an environment he long experienced with the Tampa Bay Lightning. And I think the Stars are willing to go five years on a deal.

While it’s true to a degree, as Nashville Predators GM David Poile suggested to his local media Tuesday, that Lecavalier would prefer to stay in the East, it does not preclude him from playing in Dallas, I can tell you that.

Detroit is a great fit, too, and so is Boston mind. We’ll know soon enough.

Sorry Vinny but signing in Dallas with "special" advisors Recchi and Gainey will leave your cup chances next to nill
