...the dark horse
...the wild card
...<add overused cliché here>
I continue to be astonished at his play. He was absolutely indispensible last night. Although he is a convenient scapegoat a lot of the time (because of low numbers), this guy's value is skyrocketing on this team. Quiet, consistent, solid play each and every night.
Agreed, I don't think we could afford any more with all the raises we'll be getting, though I don't think anyone can do what he does in the system as soon as next year. We need to resign him, but at a lower price. Hopefully this "family" feeling Gainey, Carbo and Muller are creating will make some UFA think twice before leaving.
Funny thing with Bonk is when he has the puck and he's skating with it, it looks like it's in slow motion. Do you guys remember his breakaway against the Flames, it looked sooooo slow, was funny to watch. But hey, like someone else said, give him 1 or 1.5M$ next year and I'll be very happy with that.
I think that not only Bonk and Johnson play well, but they totaly change the look of our team. We now have three very solid lines that I really don't mind having on the ice in any situation. God I love how Johnson is playing along the boards. And I also like the way Johnson teaches Perezhogin to play. Perez has been amazing.
I think you're delusional if you think $1.5m is his market value. That would be a significant hometown discount. I suspect that he'll sign elsewhere for $2.2-2.5m/season.
It would be very hard to judge his value without him going to the open market.
Bonk was amazing behind the net last night. But in no way is he the unsung hero. Carbo has begun to reward both Johnson and Bonk with PP time now and prety big 5 on 5 minutes as well. The team knows they have one of the best PK's in the league and they know that Bonk is on the ice for more than 1/2 of pretty much every kill!
Definitely a 180 in his performances this season. Last season I wanted him gone after almost every game. This season though is a different story. Contract year? I don't know, but as has been stated we can't offer him too much.
Altough we have to praise Bonk and Jonhson for their incredible work on the PK, it is hard to not speak about their great performance yesterday on our PowerPlay. Their hard work combined witht the agility of Kovalev, made up for great moments during the PP. On the 2nd goal of Souray (where Kovalev's helmets was flying all around ice...) those three guys did an amazing job to keep the puck in our offensive zone. I also find it interesting that Carbo uses these guy on the PP, but it just worked well yesterday.
