The Letang deal is interesting because it still isn't completed. The rumour is that the hold up is that Letang wants a guarantee that he won't be traded before his NTC kicks in.

A signed player, even at $7.25m, is worth more than an unsigned player. If that is the hold up on the deal, then the plan must have been to keep him for his final cheap year and then trade him at the draft next year. Otherwise why wouldn't they give him the guarantee?

So he wants a full length NTC.

He really is pretty funny on Twitter.

I've gained respect for him and honestly I feel bad for him. He's a good goalie but gets **** on in Vancouver because of his contract, which he admitted was terrible, and now he's stuck there since Gillis did a really poor job of handling that situation. He should have moved Luongo a while ago.

I actually had no idea strombone was Luongo's twitter handle until yesterday when James Duthie said so on TSN. I thought it was just some goofy fan that got popular during the lockout. Felt like a reeeeelll idiot.

Kristo traded for Christian Thomas. Can't believe Montreal did that.

Seguin, Peverly and Button to Stars. For Eriksson, J.Morrow R.Smith and Matt Fraser.

That's a huge trade. Would've loved both Seguin and Peverly.

Wow talk about a trade. I think I like it for Boston more. It also eats some of Dallas' cap space and increasing our chances to land a center.

Unbelievable lol. I think this is a bit early to give up on Seguin, I personally don't think him partying should've been that big of a deal, but GREAT trade for Boston. Loui Eriksson is a great return and then to get a couple young guys like Morrow... They did well here. Peverley was gonna have to be moved anyway, and they STILL have great center depth with Bergeron, Krejci, Kelly, Campbell! Their wingers are good too now, goodbye Horton, hello Loui. He'll fit in great with the two-way guys they have.

I think it made a new division rival worse right now.
Seguin might get something special but right now I think they would be a better team with Loui.
I can see them throwing big money at Clarkson or Horton what would make it a different case...

Godo point about the center. Yeah, being in their division now, I'm fine with this.

Great trade for Boston. They are getting a 28 year old, signed to a great contract for the next 3 years and a great prospect in Morrow. Seguin has loads of talent, certainly an arrogant guy, but I don't think it is to a poisonous level. He is younger than Eriksson, but with a bigger cap hit, similar talent level and not proven at centre in the League... it is interesting.

Also seen that the NHL had to memo all the teams in the League saying that you can't discuss terms within this window. What the hell is the point then? Nobody is going to pay any attention to that. Let teams make their offers, at least this way the player will listen to the pitches of all the teams interested.

Yeah, I thought the whole point was to have negotiations to make the first day of free agency more exciting and creating more buzz. Easy way to draw fans into TSN, NBCSN, and NHL Network.

I think teams and players will play the theoretically card. GM will say, "theoretically if this type of deal was on the table what would you think," player responds, "well theoretically, I would like it."

As it stands, Boston definitely got the better end of the deal. Not just because I think Eriksson is currently the better Ayer, but also because they shed salary. But time will tell how it plays out in the long run.

Montreal loves those small players.

Good thing we weren't in the mix.

Reports are hitting that Giroux is about to get an 8 year 66 million extension. That's a cap hit of 8.25 million a year......I want to know how Philly and Pitt are going to field teams around these players, especially with Phoenix staying put, which means the cap will likely stay put as well for next off-season.

I wonder if Horton will stick with Boston now that they might be able to offer him the type of money he feels he deserves.

The League is going to have to see some significant growth in order for the cap to rise by any decent amount. In 2011/12 the League revenue was about $3.3b. To get the cap up to $69m, a $5m rise, then the League is going to have to generate close to $500m more than that next season. That is a 15% rise in 2 years. Optimistic considering the circumstances.

The scary thing is that if the League does see that kind of growth next season, then even if it falls back into a more modest 5% growth year-on-year after that then the floor is going to be $70m by the end of this CBA!

I'm not completely up to date on the Bruins situation, but they only have $9m in space and Rask is likely to be getting close to $7m.

Dallas might be picking up Horcoff. I'm happy if they want to spend their cap space before free agency starts.

Yep Horcoff to Dallas. Well looks like they're set at center now, traded for 3 of 'em in 1 day.

What time does the frenzy start tomorrow central time?
