What a random trade. We wait for Kristo all these years for him to just be traded away I don't know much about Thomas so I don't know if this is a good trade or not but I'm disappointed with losing Kristo.

That's foolishly short-sighted. If Thomas is special, then why wouldn't you be happy with this trade?

do ppl not realise how skinny Kristo was?? Thomas is wayyy thicker and steadier on his skates and already showed he can play against men, unlike Kristo who waited to be 5 years older than everyone to show a little domination...it is his attitude that got him out the door.

Yup. Not that that alone is a reason to deal him obviously, but he didn't get his reputation for nothing.

Well Rangers fan could say the same thing, Thomas is another skilled guy. Never watched him play but he had a good season on a terrible Connecticut team.

Judging by the reactions here, I'm going assume that no one here has watched Thomas play. Just looked as his size and decided that NYR won because Kristo has two inches on him.

Kristo would have been a UFA in what...two or three years? Never seemed that crazy about playing in Montreal.
Thanks, guys. Really appreciate your input. Seems like everyone here is panicking for nothing.

As one who was and is really big on Kristo's talent, I was immediately furious when I read this...I hope this Thomas kid is worth it...

That's all I found for him from the AHL.

Happy with the trade, Kristo's character issues are a huge red flag for me.

Thanks for the insight, Grant. One of the many who overreacted initially here, guilty as charged.

Can we give Thomas a chance before bashing him?

Thomas is younger and has better AHL number than Kristo. I know he's small but Kristo was the most overhyped prospect in here.

To be fair I'm probably only defending this move because I've always had an irrational dislike of Kristo. Christian Thomas has a better name, is the son of Steve Thomas, is Canadian, not a ginger, already a step up for all the important reasons.

I think age has a lot to do with this move. Kristo was going to be RFA with arbitration rights after this season. He is 23.

Thomas is 21, and showed promise in the AHL, whereas Kristo showed little that would make us think he will be ready to hit the NHL within a year or so, giving us less than three years of this guy before he goes UFA.

I am not saying I would have made this trade, but age and contract status definitely are part of the mix.

Does anyone here know what Kristo's character issues really were? Godin's tweets make it sound like Kristo was a diva.

what does "an ahler" mean, someone who has once played in the AHL? so Subban Price Patches, or someone currently there cause if thats the case we should trade Tinordi and Beaulieu for Colton Orr cuz his an nhler and their ahlers....thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard. He was 20 years old coming out of Junior...Kristo wouldve played in Hamilton and he is 2 years older than Thomas.

The pedigree is incomparable. OHL/AHL/NHL training compared (lets not forget n reality its a life time as his dad is Steve Thomas) to 5 yrs of slacking off in the NCAA....
