Why would they use an ordinary buyout and have it count against the cap? that makes no sense...

Anyone have a source that it's not a compliance?

Honestly wouldn't be a bad buy low type of player, he's also a RHD if I'm not mistaken?

I'm guessing that they wanted to leave the complaince buyout slots open to use as trade chits.

Since he had only one year left on his deal, it won't be a huge hit in terms of cap room.

They may also want to use complaince buyouts on other players (like Liles).

But, I guess it will all become clear soon.

If we were going to buy him out like this, couldn't we have at least kept him for training camp? Seems like...such a waste...

Playing under ron wilsons system will make any dman look like bad. He would have done well under carlyle, guaranteed. Nice guy, I hope someone gives him a chance.

Smart to save compliance on others this yr or next

Regular buyout will be 2.2 this yr and 1.2 next

I'm not sure you can buyout players in September.

Toronto has plenty of capspace, and Komi's buyout is only:

2013-14: $2,166,667
2014-15: $1,166,667

Also this leaves the door open for Grabo/Liles amnesty buyouts if they're planning to do those.

Didn't say whether it was compliance or ordinary so I put ordinary.

Someone needs to give this guy a chance. He'll perform well with a steady puck moving dmam in a defensive system.

You cannot buyout players outside of the buyout period. This leaves time for the bought-out player to find a new team while teams still have room for new players.

Regular means two years on the cap at a reasonable number. I'd prefer to save the compliance (no cap hit) for larger contracts.

If this is indeed an 'ordinary', like someone said, little bit of cap space gone for two years:

2013-14: $2,166,667
2014-15: $1,166,667

But it opens up the door for next year to buy out Grabo/Liles with compliance buyouts should they fail to produce.

They have far from plenty of cap space with all their RFAs. And they're obviously not going to buy out Grabovski which would be a ridiculous thing to do. I highly doubt this was an ordinary buyout.

If we did a compliance buyout we would be on the hook for 3.5 this year instead of 2.1.

Why didn't he go through waivers? Does he have an NMC or something like that?

Wow, I'm feel very unsure about this move. Thought for sure it'd be a compliance. Nonis must have a plan (Grabo/Liles) to get some space to sign Kadri/Franson/Gunnar/Bernier etc..
