Love this trade. Kristo is the more complete and dynamic player. He's closer to contributing at the NHL level and he's an American to boot. I hope CT does well in Montreal but I do this trade every day of the week.
big fan of this trade, i liked Thomas but i think hes going to have a hard time making it as a full time top sixer in the nhl with his size and tendency to play as more of a perimeter guy, Kristo's a great skater with a nice shot also has great hands and isnt afraid to go to the dirty areas and take it hard to the net
kristo's much more complete game wins this over thomas' one dimensional shooting game 10 times out of 10
As someone who has followed him at UND for a while, he's not the same one dimensional player that was attempting to dangle everyone at the 2010 WJC. He's actually become a lot better of a player and he was one of the best in the NCAA last year.
This is a steal for the Rangers. Thomas making the NHL is far from a given, despite how great his shot is. His skating and size are still definitely concerns, despite improvement in both areas.
I wonder if Vaignault has anything to do with all these moves?
At the draft we actually went for some really offensive players with some real skill. Now we add Kristo. These are not typical Rangers moves to be honest...like all of you I was expecting Sather to sign another pylon like Parros which he loves to do.
initial reaction was
but i can see why Sather made this trade. Thomas has a A+ one timer but it wasn't likely he'd get to use it effectively on the bottom 2 lines where he'd have to play and work his way into the lineup. Thomas has higher upside but sounds like Kristo is more complete and a better fit for our bottom 2 lines where we can see his strengths play out more. More likely to make the team at this point. meh. Good to know the Habs fans are upset but they should know they got themselves a prospect with a very high upside.
