I don't get it, he was the fourth best D-man in Grand Rapids during the Calder Cup run if that didn't scream help, I don't even..... Have a feeling Lashoff is going to be my least favorite Wings player ever. God I hope he has a good off-season because he needs one, the idea that the first player going down to injury means Lashoff right now is scary as hell.
Maybe they expect to spend near the cap? Or atleast want the flexibility of another 1.8M heading into July 5th.

Lashoff may be a permanent #7, Even if there are D injuries.
If a D man goes down, Almquist might take his place (babcock has said great things about him too), they just don't want AA sitting in the press box inactive waiting for an injury.

That's just a million more than Weiss commands. Even to only sign Brunner and Cleary they'd need to get Cola off the books.

For you guys freaking about Lashoff, what if Ference is coming in?

There was that rumour...

Yeah, and the rumors that Holland was kicking the tires on getting a defender from Toronto at the draft.

The smoke points to him wanting to add another guy to the blueline.

Oh please let it be Gardiner; you have no idea how much Toronto undervalues that kid. We'd be set for 10 freaking years.

Don't DO that to me Bench.

I'm curious to know what the offer for Edler was.

That's different because Ferrence would be guaranteed top 6.
He would not be a #7 candidate (ala Cola), but your right it would spell the end of Lashoff's chance to stick out of camp.

If Holland can swing that, we'd all immediately forgive him. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

Good question. Wings weren't the only team in on that bidding either. I guess none of it was good enough.

I also expect us to carry 15 or 16 forwards into camp considering the uncertainty with Helm, and how easily you can put Emmerton on waivers.

Toronto fans certainly don't undervalue him around here, he is one of if not the most over-hyped guys on HFboards. I like him a decent amount although he was the worst of the Wisconsin royalty while there, but I don't think he is available for cheap. Why else would they shop Phaneuf?

I actually liked McBain more than him in college, that was a great pickup by Buffalo.

I meant management. Although that's based entirely on the perception that the coach kept him in the minors too long.

I doubt it's Gardiner. I just think he can be had. We don't have the pieces to get him, but Toronto WOULD trade him. Which is stupid, because he's "the truth".

I know it was just strange seeing that, I guess I kind of knew it, but man.

I have never been on the Lashoff train, so no matter what happened if something made it appear he was on this team, I wasn't going to be happy.

For what it's worth; you do not want Paneuf unless you can pair him with a lumbering tree that never wanders into the offensive zone.

Guy's instincts are still that of an offensive defenseman but his recovery time if he gets caught is virtually non existent.

Also, he takes some REALLY stupid penalties. (Live in TO, see a lot of Leafs games)

Even if we had the Cap space (and I don't think we do), scary, scary proposition.

The best case scenario left for me now is to buy out Sammy, re-sign Brunner, the RFA's and sign Weiss.

Not a lumbering tree and that has been a part of his problem he needs a swift skating stay at home guy. Those are a little more rare to find, but a DeKeyser that covers is probably a good idea. Not a huge Phaneuf fan, really don't like any of the Leafs D-man all that much. They can keep telling me how good they are, but I look forward to playing that groups backend a lot next year.

We have the same thought process then.

Edit: Well actually I want Sammy to fight it and just be put on LTIR for the year. He wants to flunk a physical great, go home.

Even as big a defender as I am of Franzen, I want to have a buyout next off-season just in case.

Last edited by The Zetterberg Era: 07-02-2013 at 08:55 PM. Reason: LTIR for me is more attractive than using the last buyout

I don't see breaking up Kronwall and Ericsson as a great idea. I actually think they play pretty well together. I know it isn't perfect all the time, but I have grown to appreciate that pairing.

Pretty sure we could bury him in the minors. May have to wait till the season starts to do that. As long as the Wings doctors clear him, he can be waived I believe.

The problem is, it's starting to look like we don't want to if you can believe it.

He's clearly "plan B" if we whiff in free agency. Scary as that may seem.

If prices really were too high and we weren't going to be a player in free agency, then wouldn't we havenot bought out CC?

This thread kind of contradicts the other thread IMO

Also, I wonder if they did this to try and make room for Filppula?

You could, but I think the new CBA has components to avoid the Redden, Finger and Komisarek type contracts being hidden in the minors.
So Sammy would still count against the cap.

Of all the guys that were speculated to be bought out, Cola was the last guy I would have used one on.

Hey mindfly, is there any room on I hate Ken Holland Island? I might be joining you soon.
