you can hide 900k of a contract in the AHL iirc

so Sammy would still count for $2.1M against our cap.

He's clearly "plan B" if we whiff in free agency. Scary as that may seem.
Sammy isn't the plan B.

Tyler Bertuzzi is.

Smart play by Holland... you don't carry a #7 D-man who has a 2.5M cap hit, that's terrible cap management. And yes I acknowlede Cola is better than Lashoff, but again it's irrelevant.
what's irrelevant is Colaiacovo's cap hit

it's not as if the Wings seem to have any plans to spend to the cap anyways and he's only signed for one more year

Going DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPPPPPP; I like it!

Naw, I'm serious tho: if we miss, I think they're gonna put him on the 2nd line. So help me God, I wish that weren't true but it's what I think

That's why one has to think (or hope), that this is precursor to a trade or signing.

Probably just making room for Komisarek.

Cola offered us a seven man rotation in case of injuries. Lashoff is a second pair AHLer on the best day of his life.

I have to believe:
We are looking at all of the guys getting bought out and Holland has an eye on someone OR

What I would like to see; Almquist and Billins getting a shot when injuries crop up, and we use the money freed up to sign Nathan Horton.

I don't even know who the hell Billins is; I think I remember hearing his name during the Calder Cup but that might be a drunken vision/dream.

I can say categorically that Almquist is too small/weak to play in the NHL right now. He will get scored on in a way that will make you long for Kyle Quincey. He's got the brain of a 10 year all star and Napoleon Dynamite's body.

I don't think Billins will be under contract.

I am curious to see how close both Marchenko and Jensen are.

Waste of a buyout, IMO.

CC wasn't half bad when he actually played and only has one year left. He's a perfectly fine 6th/7th D-man. I'm going to cringe when Lashoff has to play this year now.

I swear to God if Holland doesn't buyout Sammy I will be irate. In no way should Sammy be kept and Colaiacovo be bought out.

This move also pretty much seals Johan Franzen being on the team (or on the cap) in 2019.

If this is a pre-curser to something that isn't Andrew Ference (i.e. someone who wouldn't be a big of enough upgrade to be worth the buyout of CC) than I'll change my tune.

If Holland buys out or trades Tootoo next and keeps Sammy...

Of course Detroit doesnt buy out Bertuzzi, he's got something on Holland, that he would tell the world if they did.

Coleehahacovo wasn't bad in the playoffs, but he's too expensive to be a #7, especially one who can't stay healthy. He was signed to be a top-6 guy, but Kindl's development and Dekeyser's arrival/success has effectively rendered him obsolete. The buyout makes sense.

Khan reported what I was thinking.... the Wings are looking for a vet who can pass through waivers to be their #8/emergency call-up, with Lashoff as the #7. Defense looks set at this point, and I'm fine with it.

Has anyone seen his penalty shots yet should be the real question.

How about Komisarek? The Wings seem all about the big defenseman lately, maybe they'll kick the tires on him as a bottom paring guy.

Komisarek for 900k would be fine. Then he would still be "waiver-free". No cap penalty, if waived.
