Love the deal.
Love his moxie.

Thanks for the highlight clips and a reminder of the 2010 WJC locker room song

According to Habs fans he looked lost during his 9 game stint in the AHL. How far away is he?

I definitely agree. Beyond being a better overall package I think Kristo has a "safer" floor in that he could turn into an effective 3rd line energy guy in the right environment. Neither player is a lock to be a long term NHLer, but I don't think that statement is too much of a stretch.

I loved Kristo at UND. Solid 2 way speedy player. He is like a more skilled Hagelin. He will fit in perfectly.

Not happy to move Thomas though....

I'm said we got rid of Thomas because I liked him. But I don't really know too much about Kristo other then what I've just read/watched. He seems to have a solid offensive skill set and they say he's good defensively. Take a chance and well see what happens.

More skilled Hagelin = steal of a trade.

Hagelin >>>>>> Thomas

I'm not really the person to ask about prospects. What I do see is redundancy in Thomas and a better potential depth player in Kristo. So, as someone who has bemoaned/maligned/questioned the depth of this team, I think Kristo is the better fit.

Charachter issues, lol. Like passing out in a snowbank and losing 1/3 of your foot ? More like party-too-much issues, however this is the NHL. It's pretty much a prerequisite to work hard/play hard. He wil get plenty of opportunity to do the latter in Manhattan. With that said, I did the trade. Two reasons.

1) Thomas deserves to get a chance to play. He's earned it. He I feel will have a better opportunity elsewhere and I truly believe he will cease the opportunity and make an NHL career out of it. One of the most underrated releases in the game.
2) Christo get to play with some of his former USA teammates and ultimately I think he is a better fit for this club. Someone mentioned Moxie...He's got it. NY needs it. I could see him earning regular minutes in a short period of time here. UND pumps out some real good players.

Gordie Clark was just talking Christian Thomas up, saying he finished strong and should see a lot of PP time with the Pack, which he did not last year. it's kinda mystifying to me why they traded the guy they thought could get a shot this upcoming year, but most likely next year for Kristo.

Spelling the least of his major malfunctions... couple of years ago, while at UND, he almost lost a couple of toes to frostbite when he went out for a walk, on university grounds, without his shoes during a snow storm! lol

High-end speed, plays with energy. Good touch around the net. Solid prospect add for NYR. RT @JoshCiaramita thoughts on Kristo for NYR fans?

Watching the highlight videos, he reminds me of Brad Marchand.

Dave Starman on Kristo

@JoshCiaramita love the kid. Great family, dad is a buddy of mine. Love the way Danny plays and he and Step are good buddies.

@JoshCiaramita similar player to Krieder in some ways. Speed, skill, high compete, strong as an Ox.

Similar style, however I'm not sure he ever reaches that level. I like my more skilled Hagelin comparison. Hope to see him soon in the NHL as he is a bit older

i found that kind of odd too after hearing Gordie talk about Thomas and his possible future with the club, someone in this thread said something about the rangers being high on Kristo his draft year, Bergevin must have made the offer and Sather couldnt refuse it.

I saw multiple Habs fans compare him to Versteeg. If he over dangles I could see why they'd make that comparison. I've seen a ton of Versteeg but only WJC for Kristo.

I'm just throwing this out there from what I read.

I could see that a bit. He plays like Marchand but not sure that translates

Realy comparable to Kreider in his style of play, relies on speed but may lack hockey sense, he's 23 and i feel he's not ready to play in the NHL. He kind of always decided his career path without talking with the team and it seems Bergevin didn't like it. Also he seemed to care more for his college career than the NHL, over the years it was bit surprising to hear some of his quote regarding his career path, it felt like he didn't care about making the NHL.

Great skills, great speed and drive to score, team guy.

More dynamic with the puck than Kreider.

Gotta think McIlrath is bummed about this. He and CT seemed extremely tight.

That's pro hockey.
