To me, it seems now that Bergevin wants to sign an UFA winger this summer

I was never the biggest Kristo fan, and I'm warming up to this deal.

Considering age and production, I think there's a good chance that Thomas is an upgrade.

It's just kind of too bad he's another midget.

I remember a scout interview saying the gap between junior/college to AHL is much bigger than from AHL to NHL. Thomas dominated in OHL and he manage to score 19 goals in his first season in AHL. Kristo dominated in college and had a taste of AHL. Both have great speed. Thomas is more of a goal scorer point producing forward whereas Kristo is more shutdown defensive forward. Maybe the Habs just gave up on Kristo thinking that he'll never make it to the NHL.

Bottom line Thomas has more potential than Kristo.
Kristo also was the best scorer of his team.
He did 26 goals: that's 10 more than his linemate Corbin Knight.
Actually best in WCHA.

So being the best scorer in WCHA is pretty good for a shutdown forward.

Note that Brock Nelson, who was scoring about the same pace as Kristo (they were linemates) did 25G-27A in 66 games in AHL this season.

So at this point, we don't know which one will score more.
Just that Kristo is better in defense.

No one knows the whole story, that's for sure, but it seems that this trade was character driven. With that emphasis on personal traits, I would not be at all surprised to see Beaulieu traded. I certainly don't want him to be, just saying I wouldn't be taken aback. Something along the lines of Scott Laughton from Philly.

this board is HILARIOUS. The kid is already better than Kristo. With Kristo's attitude he won't make it anywhere.

Oh and I have to correct myself form earlier, I did see him play during the WJC, he had a good performance.
Well he will play with Stepan again.
They were a pretty good duo.

Speaking of personal traits, I suppose no one on this board knew that the other day Beaulieu flew to Saint John to surprise a 10 year old who had just won a major battle against cancer. Beaulieu was his favorite player for the Sea Dogs while he was in Saint John, and when this youngster was at his sickest.

But no, everyone else would rather dump on Beaulieu. Especially those who know the least about him.

Kristo has 9 total professional hockey games on his resume and is 2 years older than Thomas. Thomas has 85 professional games, including 1 in the NHL. I'm going to trust our scouts on this one...

Would be nice if they can just make a package consisting the prospects they don't like character wise and trade for one good player instead of these 1 for 1 types.

You wrote three sentences.
First one is true.

The other two are just speculation.
We know that Thomas is a PP specialist, that Kristo is taller, bigger and better in defense.
And for all I can see, Thomas has an even better shot than Kristo.

I dont have any hate for Thomas in the same that way that I have no love for Kristo.

Pointless trade.

We have glaring issues with this team and they were exposed during the playoffs. We still need more size at forward and we need at least one big crease clearing DMan to complement our rookie Tinordi.

Kristo/Thomas. Interchangeable and neither will do anything to help the Habs this season regardless of whether the trade happened or not.

Flyers sign Lecavalier. We swap meaningless prospects. Reminds me of Kaberle for Spacek. Neither was effective. Rearranging the lawn furniture while the house is on fire.

I'm watching this video of Christian Thomas where there are 10 minutes of highlights and wow the release of his shot is crazy. So quick! And maybe it's just me but he often finds a way to be alone and as a matter of fact, he has all the time to take a good quick shot.

Thomas seems like a possible bust out candidate next year. PPG in the AHL?

Kristo has no pro experience so to me Thomas is the better pro right now. Also Kristo is an idiot from all accounts. Never thanked the habs for drafting him or showed any excitement at all. Seems like an american not wanting to play in Canada. Also he got hospitalized for being hammered in public barefoot in January.

I am thinking .5 PPG in the NHL , replacing Gionta who will be shipped back to NJ after Clarkson walks.

Change wants for needs.

So far we have for center

Plekanec
Desharnais
Eller
Galchenyuk
White

At least two of them will play wing

Wingers, we have

Pacioretti
Gallagher
Gionta
Bourque
Prust
Moen

We need at least two more wingers and the money is there so...
