With the amount of cap space the Flyers could easily re-sign Read to about 4AAV. It's really hard to project though being as though we don't know what the next week or so has in store for us.

Added Wellwood's cap charge, since we can't demote LTIR players after signing them, his qualifying offer cap-hit will carry on the NHL cap-related roster. I'm basically assuming he excepts the qualifying offer since he really isn't in a position to negotiate more.

So based on these calculations what should we hope the Flyers do with Lecavalier? Is he worth probably losing Read?

Depends on what kind of draft picks we would get for Read.

Well, if there's anything really evident, we need wingers; not necessarily Lecavalier.

Read is younger and potentially cheaper while possessing the two-way ability on the wing we could use.

It's a tough discussion that has a lot of factors involved.

We have no cap space, every other teams fan base has told me. I am inclined to believe them.

Chris, can you explain why you have the Flyers with 5.77 million in cap space, but capgeek has them with -$318,552?

It's not just from taking off Pronger's deal, right?

Capgeek doesn't take into account Pronger's LTIR and the bonus cushion covering Schenn, Couturier, and Laughton.

Can we a waive Mezz and ditch the cap hit, or those rules have changed ?

Someone would need to claim him, I think.

Jeremy Jacobs (Bruins Owner) thinks the cap will raise substantially after next year based off of projected revenue for next year. Player agent Allan Walsh thinks it will be back up to $70M again.

Well, if it does raise by roughly 6m, then you can expect us to have roughly 17.5m in the 2014-15 offseason based on what we have now.

Since his contract is over $925,000 it would still count as $3,075,000 against the cap if he were demoted.

So in offseason we can go over the cap by 10% right? Does that count the Entry Level Contract bonuses? I.e. on capgeek we're more or less at cap now, however we can still spend another 10% over that (call it $6m), can we also spend the bonus money which adds about $2.5m? If so having $8.5m to spend still on a keeper and a winger (Gagne I'm guessing) seems fine, once the roster is trimmed and LTIR happens we're under the regular season cap limit...

I'm not entirely certain that you can spend bonus money. I know it's considered soft cap, but whether or not that counts against your summer 10% limit is something I don't know.

These are the numbers you're looking for though:

Pronger's cap charge: 4.92m
Total bonus charge on ELCs (soft): 2.84m
The summer salary cap: 70.73m
Highest allowable cap space if 10% includes ELC Bonuses: -6.43m
Highest allowable cap space if not (Flyers only): -9.27m

So to answer your question, if Bonuses count as hard cap in the summer, we can only go up to -6.43m by capgeek numbers (or 70.73m). If Bonuses count as soft cap during the summer then they are not subject to the 10% overage limit leaving us a limit of -9.27m by capgeek numbers (or 73.57m).

Not sure why everybody is writing off Read. Best course of action is to sign him to an extension this fall and if necessary deal him next summer.

I'll edit it once today is over with.

Adding the Hall signing to this year's roster though we're at:

5.17m in cap space for 2013-14

Adding the Giroux extension to next year's roster we're at:

10.78m in cap space for 2014-15.

Heading into July 5th Free-Agency.
